At least not all bad news as the heading would like us to believe ...

Visa said the cards had been suspended after Visa terminated WaveCrest's membership due to "continued non-compliance with our operating rules", although it said other Visa cards that convert Bitcoin into normal currency would not be affected.

"Visa has other approved card programmes that use fiat funds converted from cryptocurrency in a number of jurisdictions. The termination of WaveCrest’s Visa membership does not affect these other products."

My guess is that it will settle around R220k for a while and gather steam for another run tomorrow/Sunday.

This latest spike seem more like a pump and dump to shake cheap coins out of the new investors prior to a big move up late Jan. Call me paranoid but I'd advise caution unless you're a day trader happy taking big risks. Of course if I'm wrong then that's great too :)

edit: nope, blew through 16k

You lost R16,000? :wtf:

DMM BITCOIN Exchange in Launching 11 January. Next week might see Bitcoin touching R300 000 again.

Bitcoin is a legal currency in Japan, who wouldn't want to buy. Question is how many people will the Exchange attract.

I think many, there were some Japanese crypto's released last year, and the Japanese market was extremely loyal to it.

You guys seriously overestimate Japan. Bitcoin is FAAARR from mainstream over there despite it’s legal status. The vast majority of people over there either

a) don’t know what it’s about really and
b) wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole

When Nicehash was hacked social media and Japanese news sites were full of smug comments saying how they knew it couldn’t be trusted and only fools bought bitcoin etc. They couldn’t even differentiate between NiceHash getting hacked and bitcoin itself getting hacked.

Japanese news site comments, TV shows and social media are riddled with “tulips”, “bubble”, “no intrinsic valure” and “ponzi scheme” comments just like everywhere else. As for the new exchange they already have a few, and they trade serious volume. Although DMM is a mainstream company I’ll admit. Think Naspers with tentancles everywhere in diverse areas of business.

I blew through >16K a few weeks ago buying during the dip, starting to smile a bit now as it seems as I was wrong about the pump and dump, bullish sentiment forming.

I tried to but the wallet i was using said the blockchain was slow. Took 36 hours just to get my btc and by then the price rallied to more than 15k

Just a quick PSA : you can buy your Ledger Nano S from https://cryptovault.co.za/product/ledger-nano-s/ - they are listed on official site as a reseller

Extremely friendly and efficient service from them.

I'm posting this because I see a lot of people are ordering from Takealot where the price is 1k more. Total ripoff.

PS - the whole idea behind the Ledger Nano secure enclave is that it can't function with the software if it was tampered with along the supply chain (also why they don't have a "tamper seal" on the box) - for safety just reset firmware and generate your OWN SEED -don't be this guy https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/7og50a/warning_brutal_scam_guy_buys_a_ledger_nano_wallet/?st=JC37IQT9&sh=5e82cb69

I bought my nano from https://www.bitcoinzar.co.za

I sent an email to them first, and then dealt with Francois directly via cell phone. Extremely helpful, he told me to how to change from sending btc to zar on Luno (cost was R1800) and delivered it to me the next day (Cape Town)

USD price dropping fast back to $16k now. That R220k buy wall is going to get smashed shortly.
