The Blue Blinking Light on my USB External drive!

Greetings!

So I had a power dip of sorts and one of my external USB drives no longer operates in the manner to what I am accustomed!

The XP, she go "bing" when I plug her in...... her blue light on the enclosure flickering away...... no abnormal noises to be heard, I was expecting clicking..... but naught.....

I tried different cables and different ports...... nothing, just the "bing" followed by the flickering blue light....

The drive is partitioned into two parts..... but nothing appears under "my computer"....

Just the flickering blue light..... if I unplug the bitch, then I hear the "bing"

So is my drive screwed?

Should I ?

(1) Drop it on the floor in the hope that it might loosen something?

(2) Chuck it in the bin?

(3) Try plugging it into a Linux based box?

(4) Use it as a doorstop?

(5) Drink lots of beer and show it off to my friends as a "nerd" trophy of sorts?

(6) Sell it on OLX to some unsuspecting dick?

(7) Pour whisky over it and ignite it, whilst filming it for youtube?

Please send your wisdom in my direction...

had this happen to me before; Id do 7 personally, but I take it you do have things you want to save;

does it pick up in "devices and printers" device manager? or in disk managment if you right click on computer

can you remove the drive and use another enclosure? might start working there?

are you able to see anything with a different computer?

sure some other forumites have a few more suggestions.....
 
(9) Apply some duct tape centrally situated on your dash, it may get you some priority in the rush hour Namibian traffic.

Oh wait.... that only works around these parts.


Yeah, remove it from the enclosure and plug it directly into a SATA port, most likely the power supply internally on the board is borked.
 
1, Hdd had moved inside the enclosure and is not seated properly.
2. Enclosure is faulty. Take out Hdd and test elesewhere.
3. MBR or Partitions are damaged. Use an app like Partition Magic to recreate and format your Hdd.
 
+ 1Remove from enlosure and test on SATA controller.
(10) disassembly for magnets.

I removed the four screws at the bottom , but like a nun's legs she no coming apart?

Please advice ?

Google search for model number + dismantle, disassembly, open. :)

see any seams? also looks like you got a 3.5' model, any make you can see, sometimes opening it is like opening a Chinese treasure box;


try search for seams or openings; in the worst case; try gently pry it apart; the circuitry is in the front so the rest is plastic;
and the plastic not that thick, but I dont recommend trying to cut it open;

unless you want to open this sucker up badly; and potentially cause damage
 
I've got that exact enclosure, it opens quite easily once the screws are removed, just pull the top part off.

With a bit of force, she exposed herself to me..... I am now going to take my sturdy screwdriver to her abdomen...... let's see what stuff she is made of under that facade of hers.....

If I turn the blinking light off after waiting for it to be recognised, the above message apppears...


This would mean that the pcb board of the enclosure is fine and that the problem is with the drive being confused with itself?
