So , some feedback from “sparky”

This weekend ( visiting in laws in another town) , driving child to all her activities , etc , 450km, in at over 70 units of electricity, drove it the same way I drive my tractor

R170 rounded up 🤣

Vs tractor

15KM/L on a good day

R700 rounded up a bit

Been seriously considering switching as well. Let us know how it goes after a few months as well

If/when loadhedding returns, do you have enough solar to charge the car?

it will be a bit slower, the home charger on grid runs around 7kw, and my home solar is 5kw, with the house realistically pulling around 1.5 kw during the day ( on a avg day), we can dedicate a day to charging a bit slower ( you can set the rate at which it charges in the car settings), that said, Mrs's weekly driving should easily be covered under 1 charge with a range of around 350km, that excludes the regenerative braking, with the cruise control on, driving to witbank yesterday, we regained almost 100KM, just with the car handling the downhills to charge. Left home with 100% charge for a "long road" trip , and got home with 250Km left. Put it on charge again, to get it to the recommended 80% for normal driving.

If all else fails at home, gridcars has loads of charges all over the place, can quickly charge at one of their stations , or at a bmw dealership ( or audi, or vw, or anyone really)

There is also in the car, a very low rate charger, a 2kw/h charger, which would bring it to 20KW/h over 10 hours , and the car being driven like a civilized person averages out at 19KW/h per 100KM. So there are back up options

Not sure where you are located, but I saw Clearwater Mall has free charging available. Not sure how it works, but other large malls might have something similar.

So some of the chargers managed by gridcars , charge certain rates , depending on the charge rate, for 150kw/h charging you would pay R7/Kwh , slower , cheaper , and free at bmw dealerships

There’s a map on their site showing where all the chargers are and what rates they charge

BMW X3 (G45) Pricing for South Africa

The covers came off the all-new G45 generation BMW X3 in June this year and considering it is their best-selling model in South Africa in 2023, many folks out there are eager to know what the new SUV is asking.

Three models will be available in South Africa; the range-topping BMW M50 xDrive model, the 30e xDrive and the ever-popular 20d. The South African market launch will get underway in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Naturally, we are attracted to the M50 xDrive model which is the only six-cylinder option. It utilizes a tweaked twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit producing 293 kW (392 hp) and a strong 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque giving it a 4.6 sprint to 100 km/h. The M50 also benefits from several chassis upgrades, including larger M Sport brakes, an M Sport differential, variable sport steering, and standard-fit 20-inch wheels.

Pricing for the new G45 BMW X3 in South Africa

X3 M50 xDrive – R1,530,000
X3 30e xDrive – R1,260,000
X3 20d – R1,125,000

The prices above exclude CO2 emission tax.

Bmw came, reset that car ( i had in the mean time done the firmware update on the inverter & enabled low noise mode)

And now it’s all happy chappy
What sort of spec did it come with? 360 cameras, radar cruise, heated seats, HK, etc?

went with the entry level ( 400k difference) got cruise, lane assist, adaptive cruise ( picks up the speed based on the boards you drive by) and yes, heated seats ( its not a subscription ) , and the HK sound ( arguably , my tractor x3 , with the bmw HI-FI system, the one up from stock, is pretty much on par with the HK)

Yeah the HK is garbage, it completely lacks midrange despite all those speakers.

They even downgraded the amp with the LCI.
