Jesus I'm fried.

I literally just did bench press only for about 30 minutes.

I did 20x10 (warm up)
40x8 (warm up)

Then 70x6

Then moved on to working sets;
100x6
110x5
110x4
100x5
100x5
100x5

That left me fried af dunno how I'm still gonna do triceps after now

Seesh. That does sound very hectic. Is there value in exhausting muscles to that degree? Why not just go heavier? Or are you working on endurance?

Lol it was bad, my hands were clawed to the bar at the last set - like they didn't want to let go.

It's kind of a modified version of 5x5.

I can do 5x5 on 100 now easy, but I can't do 5x5 on 110 yet.

Though I should be trying 115 soon, but I'd like to film that attempt so I can only do it when I have a gym buddy. I could probably do 2-3 reps of 115.

I haven't done a 1RM since I started lifting again - I should try that too out of curiosity, it's probably around 120-125.

What is the ave number of days for a MyProtein order?

My first order arrived in less than 2 weeks. My second order could very well have gotten "lost". It left the UK on the 19th of November and that's the last I heard of it. It still shows as "Routed to destination" on the TrackMyPak website and the Jersey Post.

Guess I'll call it an expensive loss and go back to buying locally.

So basically what I'm saying is, your order is likely to arrive within 2 weeks or not at all. Good luck on your chances.

Hi Guys, I would like to start bodybuilding.

My goal isn't to get huge but I want to look good and become stronger. I am currently on the chunky side. After some research it looks like most recommend the Strong Lifts 5x5 program for starting out. Do do you guys agree with this?

Eish that sucks. Chances are it got lost at the JHB Mail Centre. I do know there was or still is a strike on going there. Hoping it still gets pulled from the heap of parcels still to be processed.

Is there no insurance on the parcels?

Good question. I've never bothered to ask.

Hi Sarcasm.

If you are on the chunky side I would suggest you get your diet in check along with starting a program like SL5x5. It is a nice beginner program that will lead to some nice beginner gains, both in strength and muscle size.

But diet is the real key to progress. Calculate your TDEE, eat at a slight deficit and lift heavy. Will see some really nice progress in the beginning as you can still gain muscle and lose fat when starting out. After a while those "noob gains" no longer happen and you really have to dial in your diet to see results.

And just like that my order is showing as scanned into customs on the SAPO tracking website. Hopefully won't be much longer now. That was a R3k order I nearly wrote off. We could really do with a local distribution channel for MyProtein.

Jeez... Glad there is some movement.

And writing off 3k? Never. Fight it all the way.

When did that happen? Just saw now it is very limited range and fulfilled by 3rd party. So probably somebody testing the waters?

I'll still risk doing it directly from MP for now. Especially with the specials they run on a regular basis. Great prices.

Have no idea when they started it. Just searched for myprotein and saw they had stock, albeit Limited as you mentioned.

Thanks APoc, I appreciate the help. Have done some research into the diet and have an idea of how much/what I should be eating. Wanted a good beginner strength training program to go with it though.

I'll give a second opinion and pretty much agree to what APoc said. SL5x5 is probably the best. I would add in some HIIT about twice to three times a week which will help you shred the fat.

Counting calories, while important, tends to be tedious and time-consuming for those just starting to lift. Start by getting rid of sugars and increasing your lean protein intake. If you still aren't losing the fat, then I suggest download a calorie-counting app and take it from there.

The first month is going to suck, I mean really suck. Your muscles are going to be so sore you literally struggle to move. This will pass over the course of the first two weeks. You'll also get exhausted really quickly at the gym. This too shall pass. If you can make it through the first month hurdle nice and diligently you'll be in for a much smoother ride going forward. It gets easier, and that's when you step it up again.

And please, avoid all the broscience as much as possible. If the study is not backed up by a scientific journal, 10/1 it's a load of garbage and is trying to sell you something.

Agree that counting calories tends to be tedious.

However... Still one of the best things I ever did.

It is a big eye-opener and later on it will be crucial for results.

My advice would be to track everything you eat for a month if you can keep it up. After that you will have a very good idea of calories + portions + macros, etc. Then you can guestimate most of the time. 100 calories here or there on some days won't make the world of difference over the long run

I tracked everything religiously for about 6 months. That included 1 cut and 1 bulk period. Now I pretty much know how much everything contains without tracking it physically via app or website. And I now pretty much know when I am under or over my target by just knowing what I ate through the day.

Granted I pretty much eat the same meals for lunch 2 to 3 times a week. And dinner portions mainly stay consistent. All home made. Rarely eat out. So that does make tracking and sticking to diet a lot easier, albeit boring to some.

Yip, everyone else said it better than I could.

If fat - lose weight
If skinny - 5x5 is good for starting strength, but if you've never exercised before any decent routine will put some size on you.

Just google 5x5 strength program and follow that **** for a few months to see how it goes. Most of them will generally have the same core layout anyways just with different accessory movements. If you develop issues with benching, squatting, deadlifts etc. then you can do another exercise to work the same muscle - a lot of us tend to have injuries for whatever reasons so you don't have to feel like less of a man for not doing a certain exercise :) It's all just about bettering yourself.

If skinnyfat, I would still do 5x5.

And counting cals/macronutrients is pretty annoying, but everyone should do it at least a little bit to get some idea of what they're ingesting per day :) Though I don't exactly practice what I preach in that regard.

I see Chrome started selling Walden Farms Sauces. (lolz email artwork says "souces").

I can totally vouch for their Flavoured Syrups. Bought some off Amazon last year to test out.
The Caramel and Chocolate was really nice, although I see Chrome only sells the Chocolate and Pancake (apparently the best). My bundle did not include Pancake so I might give that a try. Other flavours I had was Blueberry and Strawberry. Wife loved those and finished most of it.

Not really too interested in their salad dressings and other stuff.
