As far as I understand GYM access will always be free as long as you don't miss the requirements on the rolling window, then Vitality fee of R100 odd rand normally goes up yearly.

But I believe gym is still 100% if you are on the scheme from years back.

Gym on the old scheme is not free for premier membership... which I use.

Oh ok, I have no need for the premier, if I ever train at another gym which happens once in a blue moon they make a plan.

Thanks for the discussion on the premier membership fee :) I've been wanting to activate it as I started working in Tygervalley this month. At R184 it's not cheap but I may have to bite the bullet. December is usually complimentary premier membership for everyone, IIRC? If so then I'll wait till Jan 2014 to activate it then.

How busy is VA Tygervalley on a weekday starting at say 17h30?

Oh, that is pretty much as peak as it gets. So very busy, expect to wait for machines :(

Yup, same with N1. Lately I've opted for Tues->Thurs->Sat instead of Mon->Wed->Fri. Seems a lot better.

Got myself some USN Hardcore Whey gH. I know you all hate usn but I will give it a try and let you know if it is any good :)

I'm taking it at the moment, not bad.

I was thinking of taking one scoop before and only one after? Try and make it last as long as possible.

I only just opened mine up on friday, currently after gymming I take 1 scoop with 2% low fat milk and a boiled egg.
Then 1hr later chicken/lean meat with squash/peas/mixed veg and an avo.

Watched Pumping Iron again over the weekend, must say those guys looked much much better than the bodybuilding guys of today.
Arnold just blows those other guys out the way, I heard they used to train twice a day?
Where did they get the energy from.

Guys if you could do these:

Weighted dips: 20kg x 12, 20kg x 12, Bodyweight x 15, Bodyweight x 15, Bodyweight x 15, Bodyweight x 15 (last 3 sets looking up as opposed to down).

What would you do to make it harder? I feel like I can do dips forever. I'm wary to add weight though because it's easy to hurt a shoulder like that...maybe I should increment weight with 5kg until I can't do more than 6 reps?

Yoh guys I'll be honest I been kaaark lazy lately.

On college holiday and I haven't gone to gym in 9 days.

The irony is that I'm sitting at home watching series all day. Dat Walking Dead series hnnngggg

That is pretty hectic... Does it make your arms pretty massive from all those dips? Does being good at dips translate into having a really good bench press? You're light years ahead of me so I can't offer any advice :p

I find slowing the motion down works for me with pauses at the top and bottom of ROM. I also dip as low as I can without having to shrug my shoulders. This really improved my power through the entire range of motion. I use the same principal for dumbbell press.

Phil Heath on Deadlifts making your mid section thick.

THE GIFT UNWRAPPED PHIL HEATH

I don’t see pictures or video of you doing deadlifts. What do you think of deadlifts for bodybuilders?

I do deadlifts sometimes. But I don’t do them from the floor. Look at most powerlift-ers. They do deads off the floor and look at their waists. Their waists are very thick. That’s partly where their power is coming from—their waists and hips. You’re using a lot of synergy throughout the whole body when you’re pulling a weight from the floor. That’s great for some people to build that power. There are athletes who should be doing deadlifts off the floor to get that wholebody effect.

But bodybuilders have to remember they’re pulling with abs and hips and all that in the middle. When that gets expanded, how are you going of pulling deads off the floor are over for me. I want to keep my waist and hips as narrow as possible. The last thing I want to do is grow anything in my middle.

It's funny, I'm by no means an advanced lifter but my dips have always been surprisingly good. Guess my tricep/back area is more developed than my chest with regards to that. Haven't tried barbell bench in a while though (I do DB), and also not since I started doing this many dips :D

How and where do you do your dips? Apologies if you mentioned it somewhere and I forgot :p

Saw a post on FB by ''Off the Grid'', a durban based gym, saying that one should aim for weighted dips where u get to adding 100% of body weight. Only the genetically gifted will get there easily they said.

I'm constantly on the look out for best bang for buck in terms of exercise, and dips seem like the way to go for targeting chest and triceps all together.

Dips are definitely my favourite exercise these days hey. VA at N1 city has a good old fashioned dip bar as well as a belt to add weight. And damn, I can't imagine adding 100% BW. That would surely crush my shoulders :D. Starting on my next chest day I'll be adding 5kg every week, I imagine I should get to 40kg @ 6-7 reps (that would be 50% BW for me). Which is what I am aiming for and it would suite my RPT routine perfect.

Anyone got advice for DB Rows?

I did them today for the first time and I couldn't friggin feel anything in my back. Felt more like a Tricep exercise

Yes, I'm also looking for advice here. I must be doing something wrong - back feels nothing, arms want to die a slow and painful death.

In other news I did a whole 15x3 pull-ups unassisted yesterday. At the beginning of this year I could not do even a single one.
