Couple questions now that I'm back into the swing of things after all the holidays

After doing squats my back is quite sore, I'm guessing this means my form might be bad? I'm not quite sure though if its "eina" sore or workout sore, feels more like the latter. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive (backs are important after all :p) and my back is simply playing catchup, hence its being worked out more
Shoulder press is a big problem for me, stuck on the same measly weight for 5 sessions I think. Any tricks I can try to go up?

This sounds familiar, be very careful here, I went too high too quick with bad form and injured myself doing the high bar squat.

Follow Orihalcon's advice, its spot on, for me it was a few things that I picked up on after recording my training sessions with my DSLR/Tripod

1.Hip Hinge
2.Breathing was off, I was exhaling on the way up instead of exhaling at the top of the movement
3.Swapped out my trainers and started squatting barefoot
4.Changed to low bar squat

I have Tinuva to thank for catching alot of my n00b faults, I uploaded the video here and he critiqued my form, you should do the same here or over at Reddit.

Hey Dudes

Found a movie the other day,Generation Iron, made by the producers of Pumping Iron.

It follows the IFBB pros as they prepare for the 2013 Olympia event.Dont expect this to be as good as Pumping iron.

Find it on your favorite providers site.

Wasn't as good as pumping iron, funny as hell when that dude fell of his horse .

I thought there was a lot more camaraderie in pumping iron compared to this one, in pumping iron some guys even trained at the same gym and then competed alongside each other.
In this one it was very much dog eat dog, portrayed the guys as such lonely guys, I don't think it placed gymming or what they do in a very good light.

I still prefer the thinner leaner look the guys in pumping iron achieved compared to these veiny grotesque mammoths with wide waists.

What is your position on lifting gloves?

I read that it decreases your grip strength but after DL today my hand isn't looking too fresh, should I just use cream and man up or get that baby powder for DL day or what?

Pic related, after washing all the dead skin off and applying cream.

Agreed, pumping iron was much better, and the modern physiques are getting quite out of hand now.

Try without cream, and let the skin become hard. That way, in the future it won't hurt. That is how you really man up.

As for gloves, the only thing they are good for, is slowing down progress. Expect to find yourself stuck in a plateau because you won't have grip nevermind grip strenth.

Well said, I felt Phil came across as a douche and as much as I like Kai (grapefruit notwithstanding) he feels the bodybuilding world owes him something and alot of what we saw isn't what BB is about.

This is why physique competitions are gaining so much momentum. Much respect for the new gear guys but that HGH gut doesn't do it for me.

Today was the first time I applied cream. I do apply a facial moisturizer which obviously comes into contact with my hands, is this also bad for the hands or what?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions!

I had to start using straps as wife wasn't too pleased with calluses on my hands, I'm also in the dirt with my kid often and tends to get dirty and stick to loose skin.

My hands look like that all the time :p I only use chalk. My wife is used to it.

I used gloves for years. I still got callouses. Changed to gripplies for a few months and much prefer them, but they get thin after a few months and start to hurt again. Now I am using Gripads. Overall, the best 'glove' I have used to date. Nice padding. Finger holes so it doesn't move around. But if you hold the bar close to your wrist when you bench press, there isn't much padding. That's the only downside I have noticed, but you don't get callouses there anyway. I would really recommend them for everything else. I do pull ups, dips and deadlift often and hardly have any signs of hard skin.

Focused on the advice given regarding my squats and back pain, and while it wasn't perfect it was much better. Thanks again :D Will keep focusing on it, and hopefully keep improving

Well done, no better feeling when you hit PR with no pain, I will be uploading my deadlift in here at some point to critique my physique, you may want to do the same.

We did one handed kettlebell swings, with 20Kg ones, just this week.

I was so sore.

Has taken the art of trolling to another level. Watched a few of his vids. Funny guy :P
