I'm pretty confident it's the bb curls, the angle of your wrists is just not natural, and it's never felt comfortable for me, yet i've persisted in the past..

But I have put that padding down at my desk too, just to alleviate the discomfort there and I have no doubt it was contributing to the problem

Yeah, nobody knows your own body like yourself. Definitely listen to it. I don't have hassles with flat bar, but I guess some people are more flexible. Perhaps you're lifting considerably heavier than me. I max out at 40-50kg for 10 reps and certainly don't do that currently in my HIIT regime (6x supersets for bi's after 50 wide grip pull ups).

Interesting, I get it quite easily, never considered barbell curls, when I do do them, I choose the barbel as its supposed to be more effective.
yeah, I used to too, back when I was able to train biceps, and I'd always use the olympic bar

Nah, about the same weight as you, used to max out at about 50-60kg's with a straight bar before the problem started, 3 weeks ago I couldn't lift a 9kg dumb bell
You're right it probably does have something to do with flexibility..

Wow dude, incredible progress!! :D So how many years since that first pic and your latest pic? Are u saying your only muscle growth and weight gain has come in the last 7 months?

Lol, I am the same weight as I was in matric, 20 years ago :o
But I have more muscle mass now and lower bf %... I'd better add some mass over the next few months!!

Btw guys, there was an article on steroid use amongst teens in high school in issue 47 of Discovery (Health) magazine. They say several sports scientists are claiming that under 18s playing in last years Craven Week schools rugby tournament are 250g heavier on average than the 1992 Springbok team!

Yeah, it's blinding sometimes lol. TMI. I've come to the conclusion that most of the heavies in the gym don't bother with details like you or I do, they just blindly lift weights and rely on their perfect genes. For the rest of us, we run around trying every trick in the book and wonder why it's so *** hard lol. Not to say there isn't science to it and it's not hard work, I just truly believe it's alot easier for some people than others...

Take my sister in law for example - she'd been a runner all her life but started gym when they emigrated to the UK because of the cold weather. She spent a few months in the gym before emigrating to New Zealand with my brother and after a couple of months someone convinced her to competete - she was just shredded. So she gave it stick for about 6 months and won the amateur's division of Ms Auckland which gave her an automatic invite to the pro competition later that evening which she also won.

I'm not saying hard work doesn't count - everyone can get results with good hard work, but some people have a distinct advantage. I might post a before / after pic of her but only for 30 mins or so... it's just insane how some people can make it look easy.
True, well genetics must play a part, but also what the heavies have going for them is probably the consistency and focus that some of us geeks might not have?

Being Asian myself, I wonder if genetics are against me :p I look ten years younger than my peers, people constantly thinking i am 8 to 10 years younger than I am. Dude I was talking to tonight asked me when did i matriculate, I asked him to guess , he guessed wrong and i told him to subtract 10 years. It did not compute so I had to do the math for him :D

Asian males generally don't have chest hair :p One out of a thousand might have some. Some dudes don't even have facial hair.

Jeez I'm not 100% sure, I think that picture was taken about 13 or so months ago, maybe less. But I was already through puberty, I was probably the same weight when I started lifting, always been skinny.

Heheheh I'm sure a lot of women and men would kill to be the same weight as they were in matric, but if that means you got more muscular and leaner which is impressive :)

Wow, I guess it could be put down to a few things.

Larger playerbase, more to choose from, only the best get chosen.
The progression of sports fitness education.

I am jealous, I love the no facial hair/body hair look on myself.

Once this chite started growing... It never stopped D:
I can't even cut my hair now people want me to shave lmao

The day I started shaving was the day my hair stopped growing. Typical male pattern baldness. So now it's mostly Andre Aggasi style... if I let it grow... let's just say that my wife isn't into the Dr Phil look lol.

I get you - I work with an asian guy so I know what you're talking about. I'm on the other end of the spectrum... even if I had abs, i'm not so sure they would be visible lol. I've given up on stressing about the body hair thing. Back shoulders, you name it... I'm at least one generation too far to go the metro route and wax lol... besides, ingrown hairs are no joke!

She is shredded!

EDIT: and to be fair...I don't believe genetics play any role over and above the symmetry of your abs, type of muscle you have (long or short) etc. I have seen too many tranformation success storied from people either super skinny or overweight and then they flick the beast-mode switch becoming animals to believe they had gifted genes all along. Nutrition is key. If your diet is dailed in tight and you put in the sweat equity you WILL grow...you WILL get ripped...and you WILL become jacked. Some people just naturally take better care of their bodies their whole lives from being a teen into adulthood and it looks like they are blessed. They aren't. It just means that most people need to dedicate themselves and work that bit harder to play catch-up :D

Yeah, I posted it briefly and took it down as I didn't ask permission to have it up. Sorry for creating confusion ;)

Can anyone tell me if the weight plates in the VA gyms are in pounds or in kgs. I have been using one of the FreeMotion machines for a weighted step up but I'm not sure if the plates on there is in lbs or kgs. Thanks again for the assistance.
