Speaking about ON. They just posted this special on their Website http://bit.ly/143lFYd (R499 for 2.2kg Tub of ON Performance Whey)

They have 3 Tiers of Whey - Performance, Gold Standard, and Platinum Hydrowhey
Nutritional Info (per scoop)
Performance = 22g protons, 160 Cal, 4g fat, 9g Carbs
Gold Standard = 24g protons, 120 Cal, 1g Fat, 3g Carbs
Hydrowhey = 30gg protons, 140 Cal, 1g Fat, 2g Carbs

I think in terms of quality this Performance Whey may be in line with SA products (I think USNs Whey just has slightly less fat and half the carbs and slightly more protein. I wonder if it is a good buy or not.
Comparing the product on those contents alone is not 100% fair, ON has a lot more going for it than just that, like taste, mixability, other ingredients that is good for people that are lactose intollerent, or even just to help you have less gas if you take a lot of shakes.

That said, I can see how not everyone care about these things I mention, and only price, in which case go ahead with the local supplier's products :P

Thanks crazy monkey, reckon I will get the performance whey, even tempted to get two buckets but I haven't tasted that product so best I be cautious. Vanilla is the only option with this special.

It's 1,950g in weight btw, not 2.2kg.

So when is the best time for shakes?
I had one for lunch with a bowl of all bran today. Did not have any lunch prepared

Whey Protein is best taken before and after your workout. So you can take it at home, drive off to the gym, work out, drive back home, take another one.

That said, seeing you take it with breakfast, you should technically have protein in every single meal of the day, whether via a shake or food. Although I try to keep it via food, leaving the shakes for b4/after gym.

Yeah I use ON Gold Standard and it ticks all the right boxes
I have run into some financial problems (Car problems) so I had to settle for Evox. And compared to ON it tastes bad, mixes **** (I have clumps of unmixed protein in my shake very often etc)

I know you haven't explicitly said this but the 30minute anabolic window (take your shake 30min post workout to maximize absorption) is a myth. The only case for pre-workout shake is that you dont want to train on an empty stomach (for whatever reason) and the only case for a post-workout shake is that you feel hungry after working out. You can basically take your shake whenever you want. I only use Whey to top up my macros (as a man who weighs a bit, I need 200-240g of protein a day)

I was all set to buy the Performance Whey at R499 for 2kg, but now I see that it's R70 courier fee unless ordering over 1k of product. How good is the Performance Whey? Is it worth R570 for 2kg?

I agree with you, which is why I take it at home. There is no need to take shakes with you to the gym like some people do. There is however evidence that shows taking protein before and after gym does help, but more because you were working out. Anything from 30-90min before and after gym is fine too from many of the articles I have read.

But I think the most important thing however is, protein in every meal of the day, in some form or another. Some meals I take in my fat and protein and almost completely skips the carbs, and for some reason my muscles still grow, it does however mean I need to take in more fat and proteins than someone who also take in carbs.

It normally costs R750 so It's still worth it. I'm sure this whey is still tastier and more mixable than other products (read: SA whey products)

Only reason why I havnt pulled the trigger is because I am on a low carb diet. 9g per scoop is a bit high. however performance whey is great for beginners or people who struggle to get those extra calories in.

ON is flippin pricey, I would imagine spending R800 a month or less will impact finances for most people.

Evox I used for a year or so, never really saw any decent improvements I couldn't credit to decent food.
As gymming is a lifestyle for me as apposed to competing, finding a budget protein is a must.

How much does a EZ - Curl bar weigh?

I was BB curling an EZ curl bar with 10kg plate on both sides. I felt impressive :D Only got 6 reps but w/e

Are any of you here 35 or older?
Yes, I'm 37 and in the best shape of my life with more muscle and less fat than 20 years ago. Just need to add 3 to 5kg of muscle and I'll be happy(er) :)

In a very good space maintenance wise now, w.r.t. diet and exercise. Definitely need to increase gym time though. Am eating whatever I want now, desserts, carbs (and enough protein) just all in moderation and my body stats are staying the same. If my gym time increases I'lll have to eat kinda clean cause I know then my appetite will shoot through the roof.

That's awesome, sounds like you really figured things out!

I've found a new normal, my body likes being at this weight now. Took a couple of years to get here though. Still will need to keep an eye on things and keep active.

But that said I really do need to pack on muscle, being manlet sized :p

Hey guys so a little deviation over the current conversation but I've been on a diet for 1 month. lost about 1kg per week. Now as usual my lifts have plummeted at least by 1 plate. I wasn't taking any creatine nor was I taking any pre-workout. My rationale being that I can carefully track my weight. However in hindsight this is a bad idea, I've lost progress on my lifts and feel discouraged because of it. So this weekend I went and got some Jack3d. Yesterday morning I ate 3 boiled eggs and bacon. Downed some jack3d and I ended up having a 1.5hr long gym session. Needless to say I feel so much better now.
