My building skills sucks, bought the pull-up bar for R300 from guy selling off his gym equipment, I got loads, benches, weight plates , cable crossover machine which I mostly use these days, love that thing.

I watched some YouTube vids of muscle ups, my version was a tad off and more a monkey bar pull-up of sorts as most likely pushed off with my legs, keen to try tonight though on the pull-up bar, mines attached to the wall with 6 anchors.
The thing was pretty heavy, installed it on my own and struggled a bit hey.

Mind is always willing , just getting body to listen.

I have seen pull-up bars at sportsman for 1k that where pretty well built, the one I have is pretty homemade stuff, heavy metal and check how wide the thing is, I can reach both rubber grips on either side but can't do a full pull-up at that width.
I grip past the two joins outside shoulder width on my standard pull-up .

Will take some pics of my gym this evening or weekend.

anybody interested in some Jack3d ... got 2 sealed containers -- that's 90 servings .. R500 including delivery.
haven't been to gym in months and don't think im going back anytime soon...

No offence, but that sold at Dischem for R350 before it was "banned"/replaced with Jack3d Micro

R500 for both containers is pretty good. Hemps, sounds like you could use it to get past 5 pull ups at at time :p You need to train to failure in each set to maximise muscle growth and strength.

I have read the opposite.

1) Don’t go to Failure
This is the biggest mistake you can make with pull ups.

As soon as a single rep does not look exactly like the previous one and you can’t get as high, the set is over.

If your speed slows down noticeably the set is over.

You would never continue a set of squats if you could no longer lock out the weight. If you got all the way up on rep five but were only able to get up ¾ of the way on rep six you wouldn’t proceed to do four more reps of partials until the set ended with the weight crashing down on you and crippling you.

But that’s exactly how people finish their sets of pull ups. The form gets worse and worse and worse, and they keep going and going and going, climbing up the invisible ladder, swinging and kipping.

When you do this you get no stronger. And most of the time you get weaker. The negative effect of training to failure is seen more on chin ups than any other exercise. No one knows why this is, but trust me, that’s how it is.

I have read the opposite.

Yes for bodyweight exercises it is strongly discouraged to go to failure.
I'm not gonna speculate on why it'd be a bad idea for bw exercises but somehow a good idea for weight training (all I will say is, beating the **** out of your CNS is unlikely to help muscle growth, and more is not always better).

Training to failure and pyramid sets are tools to overcome your plateau, they should never be used every workout.

Welcome to My space, wont give Virgin a run for it's money but it's better than nothing, still have to paint.

Cable Crossover, supposed to face each other but I don't have facing walls that close.
Pullup bar, very wide, a bit close to the wall so have to tuck my legs.

Adjustable Bench, diy dip station in background, trap bar etc

Links should all be working now.

Images work for me.

I've finally gotten around to getting someone to show me the ropes at gym. Did squats and deadlift for the first time today. I was quite out of breath after those deadlifts :p They're harder than they look. I think I did alright though

Bench press and bent over rows next time!

Great son of a tokolosh that's a wicked setup you got there Hemps. You can charge admissions for that space, I approve :D

When we move someday it's going to be a mission, that cable crossover ways a good couple kilos, I have 40kg sandbags on other side of garage that I use as "carry" exercises, must admit nice having a 4 car garage.
Reckon my boys will be gym rats, still years away for that though.
Wife started squats but lost interest.

When people first walk into the garage you can see they go WTF.

@Hemps, nice gym setup u got there :)

Damn, getting joint paint in my right arm socket from pushups. 10 sets of 20 reps is perhaps too much stress. After about 100 reps it started feeling tweaked. Did different kinds, feet elevated, wide grip, close grip, fast explosive ones, etc.... But also notice there's like a clicking thing going on when i do pull ups. And IIRC when I tried swimming about 3 years ago my right arm socket clicks when I take a stroke with my right arm :(
