Perhaps break that pattern and try doing 5 sets of 5 and go really heavy? To push the muscles to the max.

Yeah I think shifting the rep scheme might help. I've had success in the past going the other way - lightening up the load a little and increasing reps for a while. You could try maybe going for 20 reps with 24s, or 15 with 26s. Keep adding reps at those weights for a few weeks and then start moving up the weight.

Ecco when you say you can't clear 32s, do you mean you still get a full set of 10 but the next increment is a no-go? What's the jump?

Agreed, lower reps. if you want to get stronger then focus more on strength training. What I found works well for best of both worlds is keeping compound movements in the strength training range of around 3-6 reps, and isolation exercises I keep at 8-12 reps to focus on hypertrophy. But I still switch it up now and then.

Some usefull tips there gents. Will implement those. Any other usefull tips appreciated.

I can't get to a full 10 reps of 32's. I average 6 reps, max i have done at this weight is 8 reps. I then usually do another set till failure to try and make up 10 reps.

Why do people bodybuilding in the first place? Is it not a massive effort to maintain a physique that isn't natural? Why not go for fitness and stamina instead? Before I get flamed, just know that I am merely trying to understand

To be the biggest guy at the bar.

:P

Btw, is ego-lifting a legit thing?

not going to type a novel, but today I did 5kg more on my bench +1 rep (while on a terrible cut) just because I wanted to prove myself to the guy that got me into lifting :) I had not seen him for almost 8 months and he was impressed, but he can still outbench me by like 35 kg's hahaha

What is a recomp?

Recomp refers to staying around the same weight while turning flabby fat into muscles. For instance with IF themed diets you can usually either 1.) cut 2.) recomp 3.) bulk. People starting out usually do recomp until they are comfortable with the lifestyle then they cut or bulk

Ok, so... It's been a while since I posted in this thread, but consequently I've been out of it for a few months (exams + new job + bad excuses).

So anyway... I'm back to eating properly and back at the gym. Did a fantastic leg session on Tuesday... aaaaaaannnd I can't walk. Colleagues are laughing when I try brave the stairs at the office.

I did do a bit of a splurge on some Universal products; bought the Animal M-stak and the Stak. I plan on stacking the two starting from the following week Monday (I'm in Botswana for work next week so it's pointless starting then). Does anybody have first-hand accounts of using either products? I've done the research and it appears it's helped a lot of people and some say it hasn't.

can any one recommend a general plan i can follow,to build muscle etc. went to a small private gym for a couple of months last year and saw good improvements with the personal trainer but now i have joined a virgin active as it works out quite a bit cheaper. Starting today!

Your first mistake is the assumption that the word bodybuilding is synonymous with the mass monsters you see on stage at Mr Olympia etc where they are < 6% bodyfat and cut to shreds.

I'd like to see what those creatures inject themselves with.

When you watch videos of the guys "training" you have to think to yourself these guys are taking "something" else, they can't just be doing that.

Do people actually doubt that they are taking anything?!

You'd have to be deliberately obtuse to assume otherwise or just ignorant. Even top tier fitness models, who are not the biggest people out there, are on various forms of gear and cutting agents.

Just a fact of that business.

Nooooooo! It's all natural! :p

People argue with me that Ulisses Jr is natural, since then I've stopped discussing steroids completely, the general population simply are naive when it comes to performance enhancing drugs.

What are the strongest "unnatural" things you can take that doesn't come in the form of a steroid injection.

Or actually ... with other words ... what is the best thing that you can buy without any hassle from your local pharmacy to aid your bodybuilding ambition.

Creatine obviously comes to mind. But so many people claim it ****s up too many things in your body that it is not worth it.

I haven't read the whole thread ... but I'm sure it has been discussed thoroughly.

Would someone please give me a re-cap ...

Plain straight up whey protein.

Everything else is fluff imho.

If you going to cycle, you buy reputable brands and have the right pct in place along with training and diet and you do it right.

And creatine works. It is hands down the most researched substance...ever...bar none. Don't bother with HCL variants and all that other marketing mumbo jumbo. Stick to good old monohydrate. Add in 10g-20g a day. Be happy :) It does not damage anything. Tell these so called people to provide studies as proof. I can link to numerous scientific studies clearly demonstrating the advantages with no disadvantages.

Also don't need to cycle it.

Can somebody please suggest a good mass gainer. My son has used Muscletech Mass Tech for 2 weeks now but have lost 3kg. Or should he continue with the Mass Tech ? He eats a lot but is also extremely active.

Your son simply needs to eat more. It is that simple. Mass gainers are stuffed with maltodextron and dextrose which are sugars to add colorie weight.

Lots of rice and sweet potato. Steak and chicken. Veggies. And your sorted.

Also would help if you worked out the total calories he actually consumes...might be surprised how little it actually is.

Thanks for the reply/

At the moment he is really eating a lot. He is eating a lot of steak, chicken, mixed veggies and sweet potato. Think he is eating more in 1 day than what me and the wife is eating in 2 days. He needs to get a bit bigger for the rugby. Has a chance to play 1st team for his school.
