80kg is good too, will still be leaps and bounds beyond where I started :D Losing a lot of weight from the diet though (no lean mass yet I think), but from this week am upping my portions considerably and have gotten a decent protein supplement for after workouts.

Yesterday was deadlift day, and I couldn't pull a 280kg. This pisses me off to such an extent that I just pack up and go home :(

I'm only on 45kg squats :p Hoping 12-16 weeks from now I'll be at 120. No idea if thats possible, but I'll see where I end up

On 85kg for 4 reps, just can't make that 5th rep, knees creek like hell and chest falls forward.

start off with 60kg at 8 - 10 reps for 2x sets.
Then add 10kg at 6 reps for 2x sets.
Then add 15kg at 4 reps for 4x sets.

Then cable sissy squats 2-3 sets until I can't perform anymore, all in my garage with corrugated iron roof, was 44 degrees in my garage yesterday so was slipping on my sweat.

****ed up my back yesterday with a light 120kg squat.

Left my water bottle on the catches, as I was coming down the one side of the bar caught the water bottle, lost balance, regained balance, but heard my back crack... so %$#$%$ sore now. Took three cataflam and two myprodol last night to knock myself out.

**** only came right a month ago after hurting it last year

Ay sorry to hear bud. I hope it is not too serious. Be patient with the recovery. And get yourself Epsom Salts. Engelse Sout. You'll see the actual ingredient is Salt of Magnesium. Magnesium is very good for inflamed and deep tissue muscles. The 500g packet is around R15. Take a warm bath (as warm as possible) and pour half of the contents in the bath. Around 250 grams. You will be amazed at the outcome. Works for tension, helps with sleeping and it does wonders for injuries.

Magnesium is one of only a few supplements that will be absorbed and utilized to its full potential through your skin.

Good luck my man. I know the feeling

I've just realised that I have been calculating my protein from chicken incorrectly...

You suppose to be calculating it from raw weight - you'd think this would be obvious to me...but no. Since I cook up 2kg-3kg at a time I always work on cooked weight. A quick google shows that cooked clean chicken breast = 30g of protein per 100g while raw that would be about 24g. Not the biggest of mistakes but on my daily colorie count this is a nett effect of an extra 400 calories. I've been chowing 2400 odd where I was under the impression I'm taking in 2000 odd. Still getting great results...but just some food for thought for others doing calculations.

Feel very silly for making this mistake...

Just checking, you counting the weight of the bar right. Some guys only count the actual weight of the plates they add on. (bar is 20 Kg)

Yeah that blows :( Since I'm vertically challenged when I go ATG on squats if I leave my cell phone in the wrong place on the catches it will be crushed :p

Ah, ok, feel a bit better. On 75kgs weights, I think the olympic bar weights about 5kg - its those ones with the plastic sleeves- so 80kg in total I guess...

Wanted to start the 5x5 this week, but caught a stomach bug. Will get stuck in when I'm better though. A question: are you meant to increase the weights after each set, or after every week? Couldn't really find anything on the interwebs. I read that the weight increase needs to be gradual weekly, but nothing on the sets.

Are you starting from beginner? I used to gym quite often a few years ago but moved to sport then to nothing, so I'm starting from nothing.

If you are, you start with the empty bar for most exercises and move up per week.

Gradually, you'll warm up with an empty bar for a couple of sets (or something light) then move straight on to your week's goal weight and keep it the for the 5x5.

Olympic bar is 20Kgs

Ah, ok, seems i got the names mixed up!

Our gym only has two of the olympic bars.

The rest is "standard bars", which defiantly does not weigh 20kg. Ill take a pic of them on thursday, maybe you guys can enlighten me on how much they weigh :p

Maybe a silly question, but shouldn't the protein supplement come with a cup of some kind? Got the Nutritech 3.2kg tub... Had to resort to the ultra accurate 6 teaspoons to get to the 30g serving size

It does. Yours is most likely buried at the bottom of the tub :D

I usually have to dig them out. Two scoops = 30 odd grams.
