If you haven't platued, carry on. If you do, you can try a week off and see it it helps. A plateau is usually the rest of not enough food.

Sorry. Did you mean to say "A plateau is usually due to lack of rest or not enough food."

I'm not trying to be funny or something, just not sure what you were saying there.

And I'd also like to ask, can I keep doing the stronglifts program's exercises / sets / reps indefinitely or do I need to change it at some point? Reason I'm asking is cos I quite like the program, it's very simple and I'm in that routine already lol

Probably meant to say the result of not enough food.

Fwiw, I'm also on around 6 weeks of SL 5x5, and hitting plateaus pretty regularly. I don't mind though, because I'm in quite a calorie deficit, so I expected it. I just push what I can.

Usually the first plateus in that program is because of a lack of sleep, or lack of enough food.

The Stronglifts program, even with plateaus, are good for at least 6-9 months, before you start looking at 5-3-1 or Madcow which are very similar to Stronglifts, but you will have to change the program at some point, probably after 6-9 months. In fact you can switch over to SL-Madcow after 9-12months being on SL5x5. But 1st, go through a few plateaus, de-load, go up again ect, eat more, sleep 8 hours a night consistently ect, then go to SL-Madcow which is also 3 days a week, similar program, but introduces programming into the program, and goes up in smaller increments.

Hemps I always assumed you had those Trojan half racks, how do you move forward in those, mine allows me to move backward only

Also didnt you have chains over the top? I'v failed my last rep on 90kgs this week and didnt feel like I was at risk, heavier and it will start getting worrisome, I'm hoping my chains will help me.

I think i might try the chain trick again, forgot about that LOL.

I have the Trojan Power Cage - it does have racks that come out for this actually, I have just come short a couple times where I think I have racked the bar and it fell off nearly taking my face off.
Yesterday was pathetic attempt at squats, was stuck on 70kg for 6 reps, tried to go heavier but feels like I'm straining too much in my mid section, maybe i need kidney belt?
Concerned I bust a gut!

I was reading an article on mobility problems on squats, if you train bare foot or with flat shoes, try raise your heels a bit with plates (or olympic lifting shoes) - some people don't have the mobility in their ankles.

I did this for the first time in ages this week - the pain I had in various places was gone, and it was so much easier getting decent depth.

I train barefoot, I'm hurting today so did something at least , I'll try with 2kg plates with heels on them that should raise me a little, didn't think of that.

Didn't think it would make a difference to me - but it took all the pain in my hip/knees away - and I got even lower. I've always had mobility problems in my lower half, tight hamstrings, etc. - and sprained my ankles a few times growing up, which is also probably contributing.

I'm training to remember when the pain in my hip started, and I think it might be when I switched to flat shoes.

Instead of working around the problem maybe spend some time improving your mobility and balance and actually fix it... But you know that's just me

Back to my weights before I went on de-load. Feel very good so far, I am going to increase weight next week on my compound excersizes.

Also, been eating more, but it is actually difficult! :(

Yay, assuming I haven't done that already - I spent a few months at a bio, and saw a physio a couple of times- they couldn't help, there goes that assumption. (Actually - I still incorporate a few of the exercises after training everyday)

My mate wants us to get a pre workout, I normally just drink coffee before heading out to the gym.

Would you recommend getting it and if yes is this a viable option or does it really matter?

Get to a Chromeshop and get yourself some Berserker by Titan labs. Best stuff on the market IMO. Just be warned it still has 1-3-DMAA in it, but that's the point. It's also quite cheap - R380 for 45 servings.

Hey guys

Anyone know where I can buy/pre-order the Generation Iron DVD? I can't find it on the on-the-line stores in SA.

Hardly anyone has seen it apparently, even IMDB has a paltry 515 votes. Hulu did purchase the rights for the movie, some say April 4th but nothing concrete last I heard.

EDIT :
I received this email from HULU last night..
Matt H., Dec 15 09:54 PM (PST): Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your email and thanks for your interest in Hulu Plus! A lot of folks have contacted us about this news. Unfortunately, the content provider who owns Generation Iron has decided to postpone its release for streaming online. I apologize for any disappointment, but we sincerely appreciate your understanding.
I'm afraid I don't have any specific information regarding a timeline for when it may be available through Hulu Plus, but with your permission, I'll definitely pass your request that it be made available as soon as possible along to our content team. While that's not a guarantee we'll be able to secure the streaming rights, we're always looking to expand our library.
I hope this information helps clear things up. If you have any more questions or if there's anything else I can do for you, don't hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely, Matt H. Hulu Support

Thanks for the input, will get it next time, after consulting with my mate we went for the nutritech variant also at chromeshop as I have a good experience with them re whey.

I will add the Beserker to the wishlist for after we finished this one, we are probably going to have to buy monthly as we are going to share so will give it a try :D

Yeah I heard 4th of April as well. Apparently you can pre-order it on itunes with a US account where it also states 4th of April.

Interesting article regarding when eating excess protein whether it gets stored as fat or not:
simplyshredded.com :: Learn The Facts: Does Excess Dietary Protein Get Stored As Fat? Written By Dylan Klein

Results
At the end of the study, all subjects gained weight with near identical increases in body fat between the three groups (in actuality, the higher protein groups actually gained slightly less body fat than the lower protein group, however, this wasn’t significant). The group eating the low protein diet gained the least amount of weight (3.16 kg) with the normal and high protein groups gaining about twice as much weight (6.05 and 6.51 kg, respectively).
See the chart below.

Conclusions
So, while we do biochemically possess the pathways needed to convert amino acids to fatty acids, the chances of that ever happening to a significant degree during slightly higher protein intakes, even in the face of adequate energy and carbohydrates, are irrelevant given what we know about the extreme measures that need to be surpassed in order for any appreciable fat gain from protein to take place. Indeed, overeating by ~1,000kcals/day for 8 weeks in combination with higher protein intakes did not amount to any additional gains in body fat compared to a lower protein, hypercaloric diet. Rather, excess protein in the face of overfeeding actually contributed to gains in lean body mass (be that what it may); quite the contrary to what textbooks and classrooms teach. In reality, the chances that excess protein contributes to body fat stores are insignificant, and arguably physically impossible under normal and/or even slightly hypercaloric conditions that most people/athletes face on a daily basis.

I suggest reading the article however, its definitely interesting.

So in summary, it's very difficult to get fat from excess protein?

So if one is going to have that late night snack, a protein snack is going to be much better than something with carbs and fat in it?
