Thanks.

I hear you re the diet. I am currently on a LCHF diet and I would really prefer if I can greatly stick to that. From the little understanding (reading here and there) of muscle gain and body building I do have, it appears I would have to load up on carbs again which would not be ideal for our household.

My knowledge of this is so little and that is why I ask here and want to learn.
Yip, same boat as you, also LCHF, i'm in full keto at the moment, metallic taste in mouth, drinking LOTS of water, the things i have noticed is i'm much weaker, i cant lift as much and don't have the same stamina, this HAS to be because of the carb deficiency, my arms also looks smaller....
But i look at it like this, I'll rather go through the muscle wasting and loose lots of fat, and after i have reached my weight goals, i can change my diet to build muscle again,
What you can probably do to slow down the muscle wasting is, Creatine, Protein, Glutamine + BCAA's.

Building muscle is a real science, not to long ago i was sure all i needed is enough protein, now i have read carbs is actually the most crucial thing when building muscle.
On one of the forums i read the only way to build muscle while on Keto is with AAS and HGH. Then the guy goes on in telling how you have to use a insulin spike after training, which keeps you in ketosis, but fools your body in same way. Apparently this guy lost 10KG in fat while at the same time picked up 10kg in muscle (in 14 weeks) while on Keto.

10kg of muscle...while losing 10kg of fat...yup he be using AAS. Nothing wrong with it, but the average joe is not going to be making those gains.

Hmmm - I tend to disagree with you on the loss of strength though on Keto. It was an adjustment to be sure for about 2 weeks, then my strength was back to where it was before and I've been improving at my normal pace. Size wise your body will be smaller due to the water being purged - carbs hold on to water so when you go Keto you flush out a lot of fluid from the cells.

Of course everyone is different. I do agree that doing Keto style cut is working a lot better for me than merely limiting my carbs. Much easier for me.

Yup - while you don't need to spike insulin specifically post workout for nutrient transport to muscles - the body has other chemical transports - insulin is by far the most effective. So adding in say 60g of simple carbs (virtargo, dextrose or the like) won't take you out of keto if you keep your carbs low in your other meals. I personally add fruit in my PWO smoothie so get my carbs from that.

What prevention you guys use to protect your shoulders when exercising chest?

I'm feeling pain in my left shoulder that I only feel when exercising chest on bench press, flyes, cable crossovers and pushups.
When I exercise back I feel no such pain, even on pull-ups nothing.

Since I have joined this forum, the one thing I have noticed is, everything I say, the exact opposite happens
i say Faf is a crap batsman, he then saves us from sure defeat
Duminy and Amla suck at T20, they then happen to turn into our most effective batsman
Mercedes never giving me a days problems, 2 days later some sort of plastic connector near the engine breaks.
Hannibal being a crappy series, now its literally the only show I cannot wait to watch
When Darren Simpson took over from Jerremy I said he would never be able to fill he's shoes, now I think Darren might be the best radio personality ever.
Exactly the same goes here, yesterday I said my strength is down with my stamina, last night I probably had my best gym session of the year, I litteraly did double of everything I use to do, I simply did not get tired....

Now for my next test,
I will never be rich, I will also never have a extremely hot blond and a extremely hot brunette on each arm, I will never own a yacht or a playboy mansion, neither will I have houses all across the world.....

I do bio exercises everyday now after training - 10-15min. Seems to keep it at bay.

Question for the guys using raw BCAA's...what the F do you use to mask the taste? Damn that stuff has a sharp taste.

Sharp taste?, it has a ***** terrible terrible taste, its enough to make one sick.
But, I have the answer :D, go to Dischem and buy the ORAGNE Pro10 flavoring, its the only one that masks the taste, believe me, The other thing that also masks the taste is "creapump orange"
Nothing else I have tried works.

To ad to that, personally I think BCAA's are the most effective supplement available, last year I did not use any protein, all I used was Creatine, Glutamine and BCAA's, my biceps went from +-45cm to +-52cm in 6 months, which I thought was amazing.

Sweet. Will go and take a look at that...adding that stuff to any shake so far has been a horrible experience hehe

I make my shake which consists of creatine, Glutamine, L-carnatine and recently Taurine (no idea what this stuff does), then after workout I mix whey, Glutamine with the Pro10 chocolate flavor, then separately I will mix 100ml water with the pro10 Orange + BCAA (with a hand blender because this **** does not want to mix otherwise), and then you just down it, it kind of tastes like Eno orange then which is not bad considering.
O ja, everything with water.

I prefer nothing unflavored.
have you tried the "pea protein"

BCAA's vs Pea Protein ill probably take the BCAA's

BCAA's are awful, I mix mine with the Lemonade from Woolies, let it settle for 15 minutes and mix, cant taste a thing. Definitely need to find an alternative.

Thanks.

Hey dude, maybe try a TKD for a while and see how it goes.

I've been off from gym for about 3 weeks (sick + too busy at work). Went for the first time since on Monday and boy I'm still ****ting bricks today. I'm surprised that for the most part I could maintain my numbers from the last time, but I could definately feel it was way harder. It's amazing what 3 weeks not working out can do to your body :/

How much does anyone spend on average a month on gym related items like your sups, food and gym membership, have you guys added all that up?

I spend about R350 on supplements, about about R6000 on food.

Gym fee: ~R250
Food: ~R500 per week. (includes Soy protein).

food doesn't really count as gym related though does it? Although I do eat differently when actively going to the gym, so...dunno
