Oh, good thing I never bought it then when the one and only PT i ever hired recommended it to me :p

That dude was so dodge. He even sold me expired protein powder once. What a loser...

Sorry to hijack, but you can Pm me the details of the gym and personal trainer.

We have a board and association that addresses substandard and 'dodgy' activities.

I'll gladly help.

Will do. What do you do to them to address these issues?

^^ Which Inov8 ones do you mean? When you say geared for Crossfit, not quite sure what you mean. Wouldn't the crossfitters want the same out of an Oly shoe as a power lifter lets say? i.e. Crossfitters will have dedicated Oly shoes for heavy Oly lifting and then for their WODs they would have their Reebok Nanos.

Assuming I am not speaking utter garbage, have you considered the Reebok Oly shoes?

edit: OK, I see now that there are watered down versions of Oly shoes that would cater to general Crossfit activities. http://breakingmuscle.com/olympic-w...pic-weightlifting-shoes-for-under-200-in-2012

The Inov8 ones are these: http://www.inov-8.com/new/global/Product-View-Fastlift-335-Black-Red.html

Only reviews I have found for them are on crossfit sites, since it is made for crossfit.

I am actually interested in the AdiPower or Adistar range, but it seems nobody sells them in SA. Was looking to buy them from overseas, but with postage and customs, they might end up well over R3000

I just want them for squatting though, so from a price perspective, I'll have to decide between the Inov8 and Reebok ones. As you said, in crossfit, they use it to do squats and snatches, so they should be adequate for my purposes (I think).

MrBuddha, out of interest, how much are u lifting? This sounds like serious business :p

Eish, nothing to write home about :p (1 x 135 kg @ ATG :o )

Just seems many people are recomending lifting shoes for squating, to help go deep into the squat, so I thought I might as well get them now while progressing.

I am going to get the Invo8 fastlift 335, see it's R1000 on their site. One day when I get to the big-boy weights I'll try and get specialised shoes :p

I suppose an update is in order.

I haven't exercised routinely since... March or April?

Faced some rough challenges with my health, emotions etc
Health - Damaged ligament in lower back. Left Wrist is still ****ed.
Emotional - Well I'd rather not dwell on it since I'm over it now.

I currently weigh 69.5 kg's. I was 83 kg's in January when I wanted to start my cut.

As it stands I am 69.5 and still quite fat, so yeah, I have been almost entirely sedentary since my wrist/back injury and along with that my diet took a turn for the worst.

I look worse now, 1.5 years into my BBing career than I did 9 months in - looking at old pictures of me is actually depressing.

So yeah... Not happy news, but I figured I'd give you guys an update since I basically vanished from the face of the earth.

IS, welcome back! Are you able to do any form of exercise? Just do that and go on a strict diet dude!

Where did you see these for R1000?

Hey, thanks! Eh last time I went to the gym I was able to bench 70 kg, which is somewhat surprising, I thought it'd be lower, but my wrist is still an issue and that was a while back so it's probably lower now. I did get it checked out by a physio, but results were slow and I think I need to see a biokineticist any ways.

I basically need 'rehab' in all forms. Rehab diet, rehab exercises for my injuries - which means maybe doing very light ligament and tendon strengthening for like months before I can truly 'lift again safely without worry'

The sooner I start the better.

As it stands though, I can't do;
Squats - even bodyweight hurts, in fact, the first thing I did after seeing my physio was squats and I made my injury worse.
Leg Press
Lunges
Deadlifts
In fact, any movement that replicates a squats movements and puts tension on my lower back hurts. Hell I remember arching my back on Bench Press too far even hurt.

So yeah, long road of rehab really hindering my progress, sucks really since I was excited for my cut.

Eh, it happens, all I can do now is look forward. Rehabs boring though, especially since I never lifted for looks, I just wanted to be strong. Pfff light weights :p

I love my innov8 flite230's. I saw a random advert on Facebook that had them at under R600, half price. Delivered in 2 days.
They are a 6mm drop from heel to toe. I don't like them for running, but love them for lifting, especially squats, DL's and RDL, s. The flatness of them feels natural.
The only problem is the sizing, I ordered my regular size 12 even when their sizing guide said 11. They are snug on the width, but def too long. If you order online, then I would suggest using their size guide.

I recently joined up at Virgin Active - after years of going to smaller gyms.

And wow - the people at the Virgin Active I go to are incredibly lazy when it comes to putting away weights that they have used, I thought my previous gym was bad but this takes the cake.

Is it like this at all Virgin Actives?

Pretty much. I have been to a few. I think the reason for it is, people got used to the staff doing rounds cleaning up after them.

Found it. Just a pity about the fugly colour.

Ja, sometimes they really have some f-upped colour schemes for their shoes. :(

I already have two pairs of Inov8 shoes: Bare X-lite 150, for when I did triahtlon in the day (still wear them as 'casual shoes') and the Bare XF-210, which I use as my current gym shoes. So at least I know what size fits me :)

Yes its like that at all the ones i have been to. (Grayston, Morningside, Sunninghill, Old Eds). The bigger guys tend to be more lazy at packing their stuff away

It's like that at all the gyms I go to and I've been to;

Planet Fitness Plattekloof
Virgin Active N1
Zone Fitness Sable Square

I pack away dumb bells, but I leave my plates on the Barbell when I'm done - obviously this doesn't apply to Deadlifts since I can't leave a bar in the middle of the room :P

What was it that caused your injuries again? IIRC you were chasing too many one rep maxes and overtraining? Be the tortoise, not the hare...

That's right. Though my ligament damage in my back I still don't truly know the cause of, I do know that I have slight Scoliosis, but it shouldn't be severe enough to cause these issues.

I can only assume it's a number of factors dating back to when I was a teenager or younger perhaps, old injury?, bad posture, muscle/tendon/ligament strength imbalances?

Who knows? I actually have to get X-rays taken, but I'm lazy and haven't gotten around to it.

Yup Yup I was overzealous with my wrist though and paid the price. Too heavy too frequently, not stopping when I got little niggles, refusing to drop volume or load despite being on a cut.
