You can get glucose from dischem in powdered form, think its R15 for 500g, its dischem branded, yellow and green box

Glucose vs dextrose? I know waxy maize would be the first prize.

dextrose is d-glucose, which is what dischem is selling iirc

vitargo would be first prize :) i bought some to use during training, too expensive to use for post workout when dextrose does the job

Cool.

Any thoughts on Optimum Nutrition GlycoMaize?

How much does it cost? considering its ON its probably expensive :D you can get 1kg of vitargo from SPS for R300, and vitargo is more than likely better than any marketed *maize product

hey what happend to ON in norwood did you ever manage to get dextrose from them?
I gave up, after 2 visits and empty promises for a phone call

been using the dischem stuff for about a month now

ON Glycomaize 2Kg R269, i think its a pretty good price.

Managed to get dextrose from the norwood place. Cheap too. But running out now.

They don't always have stock. Its a kind of hit and miss thing. Best to call them and check if they have stock before going through.

Its easier just to walk in to Dischem and buy dextrose than run around after ON Norwood :D the first time I went they said they will order and will have the following week, went the following week and they completely forgot, so he took down my details and said they will call me during the week which they never did, given up on them

The ON maize isn't that expensive really. I'm currently using the SSN maize and its pretty much the same price, though after reading this now I will most likely just get some dextrose from Dischem. Game usually has some stock, try looking there maybe.

Sorry but not true. Squat boots are made with flat soles. The last thing you want when squatting is any weight transfer to the toes, which is why I always get a chuckle when some idiot squats with plates under his heels.

Correct, and people squatting with their Nike Air trainers :D

Damn dude, comin up on a 600lb dead there. 260kgs is no joke. Nice work!

I can only do about 4 reps, but with a rest pause in between. The thing is I try to keep my form the right way, rather than injuring myself with jerking and jumping around to get the weight up.

I want to try deadlifting, but I'm not sure how much weight to use for the first time. I weigh 75kg, and 1,68m tall, so as I'm training at the moment to firstly become healthier and lose about 5kg of those hard to get fat around the abs, love handles and chest, I would also like to get some definition muscle wise. I'm not trying to get huge, I would just like have a nice toned body with some muscle definition. For the past 2 months I've been training in the mornings before work, 4 times a week, with a 4day training plan consisting of about 15-20minutes cardio every session, situps every session and then then weight training for 30 minutes chest and bicepts day one, triceps and shoulders day 2, legs day 3, abs and back day 4. I do 3 sets of each excersice, starting with 15 reps and going down each rep but incereasing the weight, or I keep the sets at the same weight with the same reps. I also use USN phedra cut and drink a USN Muscle Fuel STS. Problem is, after 2 months I actually picked up 1 kilo, and although I feel much fitter and definately lost some flab, I dont have much bigger muscles, although a lot firmer. Im scared that the supplements I take and the amount of cardio actually cancels eachother out with respect to gaining muscle.....don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to get as big as I can, but I would like to get some results for my effort.....do I need to use more protein?

Oh, I meant to ask too how much I should deadlift for the first time without injuring myself or wasting my time? I find any excercise with a barbell to be quite intimidating, in comparison with dumbells...

If you feel that you have lost fat and feel more toned, then you should definitely not worry about weight. Do start deadlifting, try with 60Kg, that is the olympic bar with a 20kg plate on each side. These plates are (should be) olympic standard size, so don't use two 10's, or a 15 and a 5, etc etc. If you do, you will have to bend down lower to lift the weight.

Thanks, good tip. Its just a bit disappointing that after two months I still weigh the same. I know that I have lost fat, but that I have also gained muscle, so the net weight gain is zero. But its not as if I have the muscles to show if you know what I mean....

I'l try the deadlifts tomorrow, and maybe I'll first do it with two 10s just to get a feeling of how much effort it requires and to get an idea of the technique. I've read that one should be able to deadlift about 80% of your own weight without too much effort and bench about 70% of body weight. So 60kg sounds good.

Hi guys! Theres so many brands, which would you recommend as im bit confused/lost on which brand and product to take!? Im just looking for a meal replacement, such as a whey proteien or something that I can drink in morning and before go to sleep? Thanks in advance..

Maybe get someone that works at the gym to show you the right technique, deadlifts can be dangerous if done incorrectly, and if they bend their back at all, find someone else to show you :D

You should never worry about weight, unless it's what you plan to lose. If you stayed the same weight, but lost fat, it's good progress! ;) You might not have all the muscle to see in such a short period of time. It's mainly your core muscles, like back and abs, etc, that make up a lot of that bulk. People that see me would never ever say I weigh 120kg, everybody's guess is usually about 100-105.

The primary reason I started working out was to lose fat and tone a bit.....one tends to see loosing fat as losing weight, but the two is not the same. In fact I am losing fat but i also gain muscle, and one thin I definately noticed is that my upper legs definately have a lot more muscle, and that's probably where i picked up the most weight in terms of muscle. So although I don't see the extra muscle where you'd expect (pecks, biceps, shoulders) it's mostly in the legs and a little bit all around in good proportions most likely.

Thanks. Will let you know how the working out goes.

As far as meal replacement --> I heard good stuff about Evox 5XL. Their Synergy Whey is also good apparently. Otherwise I've had some good experiences with SSN's Whey and Biogen ISO Whey. It's a case of what works for you. At the end of the day, whey is whey. So try something and then next month maybe something else.

If you are willing to spend the money then I would recommend casein protein. Casein digests slowly so its pretty good as a shake before you go to bed. In the morning your body is briefly in the same state as it is post workout so you want to get as much down as you can. I would take a few scoops of whey when you wake followed by a solid meal with carbs. Unfortunately the only brand I know of that sells casein is ON and its quite expensive.
