Scexit?

I say let them vote....again. If they want to leave, then leave.

Here is an interesting article on Scotland independence.

The SNP must rethink its economic model for an independent Scotland The blueprint commissioned by Nicola Sturgeon offers a future of less sovereignty – not more. It’s time to think again

They've managed to stave this off a couple of times - methinks they might not in this round.

Scotland will most likely immediately join the EU.

They wont be able to join the EU immediately, looking at a minimum least 5 years after independence, probably closer to 7 years.

Quick estimates show Scotland would still be tied to union for about 2 to 3 years after independence for a transitional period, and during this period Scotland would be bound to UK-EU agreement along with other agreements. Once this transition is over, Scotland's accession into the EU will likely take 4 to 5 years or so. Unfortunately EU doesn't offer an express queue.

Still, let them have their vote, let the majority choose the direction of Scotland.

Scotland should just unite with Ireland and be integrated into one country - rejoin the EU immediately!

For who/whom?

Maybe somebody can tell me is it who or whom? I can never get it.

Who or whom, I don't know. Never quite got a grasp of that either.

But as for who/whom, for Scotland certainly and Ireland as well I'd imagine. There would be a war before there would be a union. It's so ridiculous it doesn't even merit a milliseconds thought.

Yeah...

Its more likely that North Ireland will rejoin Ireland than Scotland and Ireland would join.

Indeed. The religious divide are the main hurdles to overcome in uniting Ireland, and similarly in Scotland it already makes a simple referendum on Scotland leaving the U.K. a ticking time bomb. People aren’t happy it’s being considered again after the “once in a lifetime” referendum in 2014. It seems like a majority would back independence now but there are many who feel the SNP should have many other priorities before pushing this to the fore again.

But on the other hand, I think several years of peace and freedom of travel across Ireland, and now NI leaving the EU and being hung out to dry by the Tories will swing a few who were on the fence about a United Ireland. But I fear the divides still run deep in the North and the propensity for violence will still be very much there from hardline Unionists.

Yeah the divides as I know of them between NI and Ireland are deep and still very fresh in many peoples minds so I don't see a United Ireland happening soon, but I do see it happening eventually to be honest (but there needs to be a generation or two pass before the institutional memory of the "Troubles" to fade further at the very least)

Sorry, but that is insulting.

What are you guys talking about? I thought relations between Scotland and Ireland were good?

So the UK isn't England isn't the place to go looking for a job at the moment...!

Relations between them are good....

That doesn't mean they would ever entertain being a single country without big issues, the nationalism in each country is VERY different.

So they like each other. But why on earth would that mean they would join together to make one country? Scotland is a sovereign state and Ireland is a Republic both with far longer histories than South Africa. It's just ridiculous.

It's time to move on Dave! Democracy happened twice, Brexit has happened, Britain is not part of the EU.

Were you drunk last night?

You asked a question which I answered, how can it be time to move on when you were the one asking the question?

Or was it just that you didn’t like the answer?

Posting articles to constantly criticize pre-Brezit and post-Brexit is to achieve what exactly? Remainers will like your posts here or on Twitter, so what, doesn't change anything, and it's unlikely to change anything in the coming years.

Would you rather want Brexit to fail so that you can say you were right all along, but at the same time cut off you nose to spite your face? Or would you rather want Brexit succeed regardless if you agree with it or not, because a successful Brexit will be better for all of us living here rather than a failed Brexit?

and just to add, I’m not trying to pick a fight but it‘s pretty annoying when a Saffa who just happens to live in England starts lecturing British citizens (by birthright) what they should or shouldn’t complain about in the UK.

When you’re a guest in someone’s house its not really right to tell them they're wrong when they complain they don’t like the colour of their house...

You're likely to start putting people’s backs up, I’m sure @Spizz might agree with this sentiment as well.

Dunno Dave, I get your point, but Adrian clearly has an interest and if the UK is his home then he is entitled to his views imo. I think people like Boris' little cheerleader and the posse of MyBB right wingers who think this is a rugby match and are only in it for point scoring should keep quiet though. That's a whole new level of cluelessness right there.

Look, there is sense to both of your arguments. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is a real possibility, but it reflects that many people are furious at how this is turning out and it's hard not to say 'well wtf did you think was going to happen'? Sure, it may work 5 or 10 years down the line and no doubt it will if we can get a government in place who are not only concerned about them and their chums, but want to do the best for the UK in general.

But at the moment it's having to overcome in my own mind that we have had 6 years of these lies about protecting our borders when in reality it was all about protecting the wealth of the biggest bunch of self serving fsckers ever to have graced office. 6 years and how many billions of pounds when several EU states closed their borders over night to limit comings and goings with the stroke of a pen. And now we can negotiate trade deals, but what trade deal is better than "free" with your biggest trading partners? Yet now we are cut adrift in a world built on relationships.

So yeah, maybe I need time to get over it but it's a difficult one to take and I'm going to be angry for a long time.
