The Brexit Thread

Strange.

When she was elected to PM on less votes, the media fell over themselves in praise and applause. Heralding in a new era, with comparisons to Thatcher and promises that she would be the one to bring the Unicorn of Brexit for all too see.

The BBC has become quite strange on the topic, it’s almost like they have decided they want a hard Brexit, maybe they think it’ll be more newsworthy.

Yeah, some around these parts call it the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation.

Not all Brexiteers are racists or neo-nazis, but a lot of racists and neo-nazis are Brexiteers...

From Tommy Robinson’s UKIP Brexit March last week.

And if they're using the Nazi salute in protest to the Germany dominated EU as a "f-you" to the EU?

A little on the nose, but certainly not neo-Nazi to mock ze Germans with a salute that reminds them of their own fascist history ...

The fact that the guy is also miming a Hitler moustache kinda gives it away...

May messes up again.

Brexit latest: EU leaders scrap plans to help Theresa May pass deal after disastrous meeting in Brussels

Theresa May’s Brexit plan was dealt another major blow at a meeting with EU leaders on Thursday night in a disastrous turn of events that resulted in them scrapping written commitments to help her pass her deal through parliament.

After arriving in Brussels with promises to help the prime minister, European leaders were left amazed when she turned up without any developed requests or ideas.

The 27 heads of state and government subsequently decided to delete lines from their council conclusions saying the EU “stands ready to examine whether any further assurance can be provided” and that “the backstop does not represent a desirable outcome for the union”.

The key paragraphs appeared in leaked earlier drafts on the conclusions and their absence leaves a barebones statement that does the bare minimum to help the prime minister. The limited assurances provided in the statement are extremely unlikely to placate Ms May’s MPs, who have said they want major changes to the agreement.

As was to be expected...

The EU is going to get tougher and tougher on the UK in this negotiation, the closer it gets to the deadline.

This is one of the best things I've read on Brexit.

Brexit Britain: Small, boring and stupid

The UK better get used to being a middling power.

Britain’s imperial history and 45 years of membership in the EU — where London was a dominant voice — is why it is struggling to conduct diplomacy as the middling power it is now becoming. Accustomed to issuing colonial diktats or throwing its medium-sized weight around a medium-sized pond, the U.K. simply doesn’t seem to know how to play the game of give and take needed to negotiate with a far larger partner.

It is perhaps because of this history that many people in the U.K. are so awfully uninformed about the EU. Its political and journalistic classes are simply unused to having to consider the opinions of others.

I can’t say I’m surprised. From various perspectives — now as a journalist, formerly an adviser to both the U.K. government and the EU, and always a citizen of the Commonwealth — I’ve been immersed in Brexit and Britain’s identity complex for years.

While many Brits have strong emotions about the EU, they rarely have a strong understanding.

Corbyn is so incompetent he can't even propose the right motion of no confidence. Pure comedy.

Corbyn knows exactly what he is doing, he is playing for the media and trying to trick his core supporters, I doubt it’s going to stop their new grassroots campaign to get all constituencies to endorse the 2nd referendum with stunts like this. His problem is the facts coming out so quickly.
