The Cooper Bill that makes legislation to prevent a no deal has been passed by HoC, all readings and committee stage all in one day if I’ve read it correctly. Bill moves to the HoL tomorrow. Sky News are reporting the HoL is expected to pass it without any amendments.

Government appears to have lost every amendment they tried to make to the bill.

MPs pass Cooper bill by majority of one
The Cooper bill has passed its third reading with a majority of only one vote, 313:312

It's interesting legislation, as what it does is:

"If approved by the Lords, it will enshrine in law that Theresa May has to ask EU leaders for a long extension if she fails to get her deal through parliament by April 12, which would rule out a no-deal Brexit - provided Brussels approves a longer extension of Article 50."

It seems the 'long extension' could be around a year, based on what Juncker said when he ruled out a short extension.

Remarkable that all this fighting is still about the withdrawal agreement, and not actually even the treaty between the UK and EU that will govern the relationship in the future.

provided Brussels approves
Which is precisely why it was a waste of time the first time they "ruled out no deal brexit" and it is equally ridiculous now.

Not without a generous helping of irony either: putting your fate in the hands of the EU when the whole point of brexit is to put a stop to that.

It is just a backhanded way to get May's deal in. If they can no longer do a hard exit and have run out of time, then there's only one deal left.

I wonder if Brussels will even grant an extension? Does note feel like it is in their best interests and and they have been fairly patient with the Brits.

EU already mentioned there is a 90% chance of a no-deal. I can't see them needing to extend it any further. Unless they feel they might still find some kind of deal which will favor them too. Which seems more and more unlikely.

EU elections are coming up soon. I don't think they want Farage with them in Brussels for another 5 years.

Agreed. All the drama and uncertainty is driving more and more financial firms (the backbone of the UK economy) to places like Frankfurt. The EU must be loving this.

Just heard over the radio. EU will not grant an extention unless May's deal is accepted :D

Thus unless they agree on May's deal it's no-deal Brexit 12/04/2019. Now it's May's deal or nothing

Or revoking article 50...

I don’t think May has even asked for another extension yet (the bill to force her to do so has just passed its first vote in the HoL), so that radio station must be guessing or opining at this stage.

They played a clip from some EU person.

I'm sure you can find it. Was driving so wasn't really concentrating.
