The Bubbles challenge

Well it depends when the usage reports get mailed, not always on time. Before midday on the 31st should be reasonable?

I don't even get usage reports :/ The last time I got one was about 6 months ago.

On the contrary. The 128k VAS is R249/month * 24months = R5976. Now, if 10 people take on this VAS just for the comp, that = R59760 which easily covers the cost of the modem. Yes, the network will suffer for it, but as we all know, money is king. ;)

Well thought out for the company's monetary benefit : Yes
Well thought out for the consumer's QOS benefit : No
Well thought out in terms of network stability : No
Well thought out in terms of realistic measurement of consumer's browsing/download habits by the company : No

Short term goal : I'm not sure but it would appear that short term financial gain to the detriment of existing subscribers seems to be the prime candidate.

What is the point of all of this?

I thought of it as a great way to give away a 2mb modem, good advertising, increase some moral and sportsmanship between subscribers.

Same could be said for the vodacom/mtn/cellc "2GB" specials.

I think everyone is missing the point of this comp, it's a simple comp. for a handfull of MyBB iBurst users who probably already have VAS and download like mad anyway to have some good ol fun. Everyone that's posted in this thread so far is probably the only guys in this comp...

Interesting, I get mine everyday. What about online? Just checked mine on the new site and it appears to be working.

Great way to get people to migrate to Cell for instance.
Great way to overload the network and mess up QOS to existing subscribers.
Great way to decrease moral(e) - sic
Sportsmanship - encourage subscribers to rape a network?

No - I'll stick with what I said before - Not well thought out at all especially if it's going to affect my QOS which I pay for dearly every month,

You stick to that... I'll stick with my thought: I want to meet the guy who downloads 100+Gb on any of the vodacom/mtn/cellc specials. That will have to be one seriously rich person!

The HSPA+ deals are good, but not for heavy users like some of us. 2Gb is really not alot these days!

Online works most of the time.

Well thought out for the company's monetary benefit : That's not the point of this and I bet it wasn't even considered when the competition was conceived.

Well thought out for the consumer's QOS benefit : Your QOS this month will be exactly the same as it was last month as the same number of people who tried to download the whole interweb last month = the number of people participating in the competition this month.

Well thought out in terms of network stability : Same as above

Well thought out in terms of realistic measurement of consumer's browsing/download habits by the company : I don't even... Where does that come from? Who said anything about gathering stats?

Gekco just feels like complaining about something : Seems like it.

100%.

This is a community initiative, so no conspiracy theories. The number of participants are limited to this forum so in the context of the network it is a pimple on the bum of an elephant. There is more than enough bandwidth between midnight and 8am so the network will not suffer. (The rating and service control parameters have been tested and are working well.)

Well, everyone has valid points and some have assumptions (which are incorrect as well), so I guess: Good luck to all participating. I am giving it a skip though.

not to mention most of us taking part in the competition download like crazy anyway

Suppose there are too little of us but if there were a lot it would have helped find any possible bottle necks should the 2Mbps become mainstream down the line...

I started a speed wave on speedtest.net. Would be interesting to track how the network handles over the next month.

I usually get full speed with my iBurst connection but over the last few days my speed has dropped quite a bit and hardly goes over 0.6mb. Hopefully it won't affect my chances in the competition.

You two took all rewards!

I haven't been able to download due to having no international connectivity last night and my connection dropping randomly other nights :(
