The BYD (EV) Thread

Well since the BYD Shark 6 whatever its called, the bakkie is like R400k cheaper overseas and like R1m here!!! I'm sure they will shoot their other foot and make this car R2m.

Meanwhile ICAUR is like R600k and fully electric with a 400km range! excellent
Don't blame BYD for our ridiculous import tariffs

Since my last post, we put through an order for the Dolphin Surf. Been a few weeks and still no stock. These cars are selling fast!

Surprising how little into Alpine Group have on when stock is arriving etc. I'm based in Durban, and multiple BYD branches don't have any ETAs

I wonder how long a window or windscreen replacement will take?

Ya that's my concern. When I ask the dealership they say it won't be an issue, but they are also salesmen

The thing is that the amount of sales caught them a bit off guard due to the fuel prices.

Not long for a windscreen. WD / FUYAO stock already available in SA. (FUYAO even makes some of the glass for the Shark as OEM)

Side and a rear glass not listed yet so they will be agents only.

FUYAO PART:

The manager from the BYD branch says that the shipment of batteries for the Dolphin Surfs is being held up due to the war, so by July you still won't see any batteries available for parts etc. I think they said the cars are manufactured in Brazil.

I have my doubts with how true this is - any truth to it?

Wow, learnt something new about brazil/byd:

Not buying the war excuse though.

Why would you need battery parts anyway? AFAIK, these things are glued shut and you have to almost destroy the pack to open it to remove cells judging by that sandy munro video I watched the other day.

BYD to unveil new ATTO 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV

BYD Auto South Africa will officially unveil its new ATTO 2 DM-i to local media and stakeholders on 10 and 11 June 2026, as the Chinese vehicle manufacturer continues to grow its presence in South Africa's new energy vehicle market.

The launch follows the recent introduction of the BYD ATTO 8 and forms part of the company's broader expansion strategy in the country.

While full specifications remain under wraps ahead of the launch, BYD confirmed that the ATTO 2 DM-i will feature its DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, which combines electric driving capability with extended driving range. The vehicle will also be equipped with the company's Blade Battery technology, a key feature across BYD's global vehicle range.

According to BYD, the new model is aimed at motorists seeking the benefits of electrified mobility without sacrificing practicality and everyday convenience.

"The South African market has responded incredibly positively to BYD's growing vehicle portfolio, and we are excited to continue building on that momentum with the introduction of the ATTO 2 DM-i. This is a vehicle designed for customers who want the benefits of electrified mobility without compromising on practicality, convenience or everyday usability," said Marketing Director at BYD Auto South Africa, Nomonde Kweyi.

Pricing and full vehicle details will be announced on June 11.
