The Cannabis Thread #2

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to connect with growers or breeders in South Africa who are preserving original, untampered cannabis genetics — particularly landrace or heirloom strains that have not been crossed with modern commercial lines (e.g. Cookies, Gelato, Zkittles, etc.).

I’m especially interested in indica or indica-dominant strains, as the goal is also to produce natural hemp oil for health and wellness purposes. I'm looking for:

- Traditional South African varieties from KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, etc.

- Plants with strong medicinal effects, high resin content, and no modern hybrid influence

- Genetics that have been preserved through local or generational growing, not commercial seedbanks

If you or someone you know has been growing old lines from before the commercial strain boom, I’d love to connect, learn more, and possibly acquire seeds. I'm not looking for hype strains — just clean, authentic cannabis that’s stood the test of time.

Appreciate any help or leads. Thanks for keeping the true genetics alive.

you prob already know.. 5-10yrs back would of been easy collecting landrace but the hybrid evolution has even infiltrated rural traditional communities. communities who grew the herb for decades before laws eased in SA have consciously made the decision to grow newer varieties based on $return(profit) miss the high resin cannabis as well, most hybridized varieties lack that characteristic compared to landrace(there are exceptions but few). all the best in your quest/peace out!

Your best bet would be to contact the seed sellers in SA and ask them. Most here buy what is available locally and most are hybrid strains. And those users that grow for themselves are growing what is available.

In the dense greenery of Brazil’s Atlantic coast, botanists have long walked past a drab shrub called Trema micrantha Blume. Until recently, no one suspected its berries and blossoms contained an active ingredient already worth billions of dollars worldwide.

That compound is cannabidiol (CBD), widely studied for easing seizures, anxiety, and chronic pain without the mind-altering high of marijuana.

The possibility of harvesting CBD from a fast-growing plant that governments do not regulate as tightly as cannabis could reshape both agriculture and medicine.

I don't have anywhere to compare it to, but I can say it was well worth the visit to the Merry Jane Woodstock 'dispensary'..
