I don't understand this.

Currently to get to Sea Point you have to go down to the waterfront traffic intersection go to the next set of lights and turn right. Both of these intersections are a nightmare which could be avoided by completing the flyover.

This in turn would relieve the congestion at the two intersections.

Of course there are also two unfinished portions of the flyover near the Artscape bend - I have no idea where these were supposed to go.

All spectator parking is in and around the CBD. FIFA and media hotels in the CBD. Main transport hub in the CBD.

No cars would be allowed into the stadium precinct 5 hours before matches before match days unless its the IRT system, FIFA Family/Sponsors, Media Shuttles etc.

Sorry, I meant general commuter congestion. You cannot get out of town from about 16 30 onwards. I was not referring to the WC.

Yes, that is kinda more like what I was getting at. That intersection is a nightmare. I thought the flyovers were intended to, well, fly over there and sort that out.

Clearly Bwana needs to get out more :o
 
Even if there are benefits, with a national treasury allocation of just under R1 billion for transport you can't spend R600 million on a highway completion project that gets some people to Sea Point without going through robots.


Freeways must be demolished.
 
I dunno hey, those are very busy in the evenings.. if it was just that highway at the bottom people would be stuffed

These highways you refer to are in practice, just lanes reserved on the N2. Paint a line and it becomes the Rapid Route. Typical council short cut!

Huh? It does not make sense to demolish them if they will free up traffic. Surely that is important? What else is the cash being spent on?
 
I hope the overpasses stay un finished. I think joining them will just ruin the look of that whole section that will be underneath them.
 
I heard it mentioned on the radio that in Joburg they convert outbound lanes to inbound lanes during morning peak and vice versa to ease congestion, because there are hardly any cars on the outbound lanes from the CBD in the mornings.

Why dont they do it in CT.

Another thing that amazes me is that Cape Town's CBD I am told is very small compared to other cities especially Durban and Joburg, yet there are so many cars streaming in and out of the CBD, if you consider how many businesses are in the outlying areas like Belville and the Industrial Areas theres hardly as much traffic into these areas in morning peaks.

Ja, the CT CBD is indeed very small and mostly devoid of any light/heavy industries. Probably the nicest city in the whole of SA simply due to the above though.
 
The Central City area now includes Woodstock and so forth, but the transformation over the last 5 years remains astonishing. The future is even better.

Perhaps, but a lot of effort went into turning the place around.
It was not a natural turn around process of where Cape Town's CBD was heading 10 years ago. Money was invested, central city partnerships formed, improvement districts put in place.
