The Corsa problem solver

Turns out, it was the left-front link stabiliser.

But get this; Friday the driver-side window winding mechanism (manual) broke, so when I booked the car in to have the knocking sound sorted out I asked them to replace the window windine mechanism as well.

Link stabiliser + labour: R1700
Window winding mechanism: Over R9000 from the agent! Goldwagen doesn't have any in stock and my mechanic cannot source any from the other aftermarket suppliers he uses.

So, anybody know where to find a manual window winding mechanism other than trawling scrapyards?
Not sure where you are based?

Buddy, how do I buy you a beer?

Just called them, they can help. Looking at ~R1200 including labour.

I'm in Jo'burg, but a trip up to Pretoria to pay R1200 vs what the insane agents want is not even an issue for me.

Let us know how it goes... I may have to use them myself sometime as my 2002 Corsa B sometimes has an issue on the passenger side...

Will do. They sounded super helpful over the phone.

They told me that I could either strip out the mechanism and leave it with them or take the car in and leave it with them for a couple of hours. If you do opt to take your car in they advise you to book in advance as they only take in 3 cars per day, so I'll make a plan for next week if I can and then let you know how it goes.

Wow ok...thanks...jip it's one marked in orange

Let me try and explain why I'm thinking it could be the MAP ...I'm not doubting your knowledge and advice just trying to figure it out ....please correct my apofises

So car idles very high..I keep it idling, then

Remove the plug going to idle control valve

Remove the green plug going to Map

Car idles very strange/low

Re connect the idle control valve....idling goes little better and goes up just under 500rpm

Re connect MAP....idle almost normal then shoots up to the 4-5000rpm

This is a play by play of what I did and the reason for my thinking

Please if you can revert on this?
Hl there the pink
Here is the Map sensor and from your description I am sure you got it right.

I have asked about it, there is a nipple on the underside of the throttle body, apparently it goes there, mine is also lose, the twist is that there is a rubber thing that was used to seal that hole, no idea what was happening. The blue pipe does build up a vacuum though.

Apparently it is aircon related. I have plugged it in and we'll see if there's a noticeable change.

So it took some time for me to get around and have my window winder repaired, but I went ahead and had it done last week Friday.

Called them a week in advance and they said they only take 3 cars per day, so the sooner I get there the better. I got there just as they were opening (8am), first car in the queue. Caught an Uber to Kolonnade to burn some time and got a call from the workshop just after 11 that the car was ready. R1100. The cable itself had stretched, so they had to fabricate a new one.

You saved me a fortune with the recommendation, cheers bud!

Unfortunately, the next issue has arisen. Yesterday the oil light started flashing and she's leaking oil. :( The car has been rock solid for 13-years, but I think it may be time to let her go. I've already replaced the water pump and link stabilisers this year, and now an oil leak.

Mine is 22 now... Cant afford to uograde though. Lets see how long it can go on for... :)

Can you see where the engine is leaking from. Mine was the tappet cover... Quick and cheap...

22? Nice! Previously my dad drove the original Utility (based on the B) for 14-years and used it for daily deliveries. No issues. Sold it to a guy who completely refurbed it (respray, stripped and rebuilt the engine). Few months later the guy was T-boned by a drunk driver and the bakkie was sent to heaven. My dad has since been driving a Chevy Utility for the past 8-years now and likewise, no issues. Our experience with Opel has been very good in terms of reliability.

So I jacked the car up and cleaned up all of oil in the areas where I think it could be leaking. Let her run for a bit and it looks like the leak is coming from the oil pressure switch. Within seconds of the car running I could feel fresh oil around the sensor but couldn't see oil anywhere else. Done some snooping around the Vauxhall UK forums and this seems to be a common thing for the 1.4 Ecotec Z14XEP engines. Found a video on Youtube and it it is super easy to replace (I have already taken it off) and Goldwagen has them for R100. I hope this is the issue because it will be a cheap and easy fix.

Update: I replaced the sensor, topped up the oil and took her for a drive. This appears to have resolved the oil leak.

About time I post the headache that I am having…

Vehicle – Opel Corsa C Utility 1.8

Issue – Slight miss / hesitation between 2000 rpm – 3000rpm, more recently what sounds like an exhaust splutter or mini backfire when revving at standstill to this rev range. Fuel consumption has gone from ~8 l/km to ~10 l/km.

Parts replaced – Spark Plugs, HT Leads, Coil Pack, Idle Sensor Valve been cleaned thoroughly.

Next stop will be diagnostics, however thought I would post this here and see if any one has any ideas perhaps?

The fuel relay does also give issues at times so could also give that a try, they are relatively affordable so no harm in getting a new one and see what happens.

I have to say, I don't know what it takes to get an engine light on those cars, most cars would throw out a light at any form of a misfire.

What plugs did you put in, do a test with the old coil pack to check.

Did a like for like replacement and as per manufacturer spec: NGK - BPR5EY. When I get a chance I will pull the plugs and do a visual inspection to see how they are burning.

All true, no warning light whatsoever. Will pick up a fuel relay and report back.
