The Courier Guy / Pudo - A Broken System and Frustrating Experience

I am in the deep platteland where services of all kinds are very limited. Pudo and TCG are one of the few lights of hope and joy to use. I always receive the SMSs, emails, waybill numbers and whatnot, very quickly. Even sending parcels internationally is a pleasure. Of everything that's broken in this country, my experience is that PUDO/TCG is not one of them. Locker-Locker, collect or drop-off, locker to street address ditto, all work like a charm.

Is it not possibly your branch that is dropping the ball?

Still faster than those plebs at PEP's Paxi.

Paxi improved alot these days. You can now do online bookings at https://portal.paxi.co.za/

Granted you have to buy the bags in advance. Great if you're sending our regularly. No need to manually scan your ID, dictate your numbers to their staff. Do it all online and they just scan the bag at the store.

It was via Bid or Buy
Or Bobshop as they're called now
You'll see loads of items listed at R30 shipping
I ordered 5 items from 1 guy expecting R30 x 5 = R150
But it was just R30

Perhaps item was priced to include part of shipping ? No company would survive R30 shipment fee. There was a guy (on carbonite) who offered it for R50 within johanneburg but he closed the business in a year's time I think. He used to deliver himself as well but he had some drivers working for him as well, if I recall.

Dunno
I am not a courier

(Not referring the TCG deliveries to your front door. Referring to TCG Branches)

TL;DR
The Pudo System or TCG to TCG walk in system at your branches is broken and a tedious and frustrating experience which makes zero sense. I have experience this now at more than one branch. Hate having to go fetch a parcel.

Anyone else have a similar frustrating experience fetching a parcel at TCG branch?

The Process:

At the local branches there are usually one or two people doing everything, most of the time clicking away on their extremely slow computers, asnwering the phone and not being able to multi task. Takes ages for them time find someones parcel. Their system uses a combination of TCG Tracking Numbers, Pudo Locker Tracking and Name and Surname only giving you a call.

1. Someone sent you a parcel using Pudo.
You are supposed to get an sms but 80% of the time you don't get an sms.
Someone at TCG phones you to tell you your parcel is there.

2. You go to collect it. But first you wait for the 3 people in front of you. Who are currently also waiting and fighting with the system. Frustrated.

3. 15 minutes later is your turn. You stumble over all the parcels scattered around the little TCG office floor. THe assistant waits for you to start talking without looking up from the computer screen, smoke coming out of his ears.

4. They ask for a tracking number. You give them the tracking number the sender sent you if you were lucky or you just give a Name and Surname because they phoned you and did not provide a reference number.

5. While they ask for that they first do some other things on the computer. Then someone else says they first need to use the computer (even though there are two), then you wait, the TCG assistant waits for the other assistant, then finally he get access to the computer again. This process gets repeated throughout the process.

6. Then finally someone goes to the back which is easily accessible by anyone walking in as well, there they start looking for your parcel among 100 of other parcels scattered around the room. Then you finally go into the back as well to help look. Great, WE found your parcel.

Back to the front computer waiting for the other assistant to stop using it while the other one is using it. Crazy I know.

7. Now they ask for the locker pin. Of course you did not get an sms. They are sorry. They go on the system. This takes a while as in between other person uses computer as well. Now they confirm your phone number. Great. They sending you an sms now. THere is no reception there, so you walk like a hobo up the driveway. Great, now you get an sms. Time to walk back like a wonga addict.

8. You got an sms and ready to give a pin. Now the assistant is first looking for a piece of paper you need to sign and write your PIN on. THe paper are lost somewhere under one of the boxes stacked around. Found it! Great. You sign and you write down the pin.

9. Back to the computer. This takes a while as other person quicly need to do something as well.

10. Sorted. You can now leave and thank you for your patience.

11. I hate receiving a Pudo parcel.

Courier Guy, if you read this, FIX YOUR WALK-IN / LOCKER SYSTEM, IT IS NOT WORKING!

Not such a smart locker system.

/sips coffee
LOL...

Why don't they use the lockers ?

That would be nice.

The seller pays R30 and the buyer pays R30 and then Bob relies on their huge volume discount to ship it for R60.

PUDO estimates 7 days to ship a package 500kms!
Took 5 days. As they only pick up from the lockers once a day, it's advisable to get your packed there as early as possible. I obviously just missed the Friday pickup (at my locker, it was around 1pm) so the package sat in the locker over the weekend. Picked up Monday at around 1pm, delivered to destination locker on Wednesday. Cannot complain about that. :)

Paid for 6 PUDO lockers and booked the items. No locker number received for the last one
The on-line help is useless
Sent an email. Reply was to send proof of payment. No response thereafter
One PUDO locker states: Maynard Mall, at parking 1. Spent 90 mins looking for this. Lady from centre management said it had been removed, she gets questions daily about this
Sent email asking what to do. Received generic reply stating that I had 36 hours to deposit the package

What a waste of time and money

Was this via the app?

I've only had a couple of issues with Pudo and I've sent over 1 000 parcels using Pudo.

My local TCG is excellent. I'm there almost every day dropping off 5 parcels or more at a time. My only complaint is that they don't always have Pudo boxes in stock but I've started ordering the Pudo boxes from their website. Normally a hundred at a time of the extra small and small Pudo boxes.

I've had a couple of broken jars on delivery and one parcel that was sent to the wrong city initially but rerouted the next day. Most Cape town deliveries are same day if I drop it off at the kiosk before 10am here in Somerset West. Joburg is normally 2 days and Durban and other cities can take 4 to 5 days.

send and recieve parts daily ,never had a problem yet .the moment a locker is decommissioned its removed from the map .the odd time ive used the help desk replys were quick and never had a problem with them ,but when sending thousands of items daily i suppose shiiiiite happens.what did happen at our closest point the garage was sold and the new owner just switched the pudo off and never notified anyone it took a few days to get parcells sorted out to a new point .

Looks like they completely ****ed up their latest updates.

Nothing is working and lots of frustrated users on Facebook.

Both android and iOS apps are not working.

Website is a mess. Replaced my logo that I uploaded with some other random company logo. Go through all the steps to make a booking and then on the last step it says no services available.

Shopify integrations also not functioning. Server 500 error and only gives me one locker to select for pickup or drop off.

No way to make a booking using all of the methods

The devs at TCG are absolute idiots so I’m not surprised to hear that.

Now it randomly puts another users logo on my waybills even though I've uploaded my own logo more than 5 times already.

I've had 5 different company logos come on my waybills.

How does another user's logo get transferred to a different user. Screenshot_20240901_202224_Adobe%20Acrobat.jpg

Is the Pudo app/website up and running yet?
I want to send a parcel later today.

Yoh, the new Pudo website is sht, it's poorly designed and the user interface is terrible.
If someone said a student had built it in their spare time I wouldn't be surprised at all.
It still has that bug where the website doesn't know if you are logged in right after logging in.

I see that kind of thing quite often in South African websites, even for some rather large companies, there must be a massive demand for good coders.
