Ya that'll work... Also starting off with a Lager/Pilsner may be a good idea and ending off in a stout will be an achievement for the noobs

I did go check the IBU and it's not that bad.
Devil's Peak First Light: 20
Jack Black Butchers Block Pale Ale: 35 / Lumber Jack: 40
CBC Amber Weiss: 11
And Union Sunday IPA: 35
Copper Lake Dark Larger: 26

I'm a bit on the fence about a stout. At least 2 people indicated they disliked stout. My response to that statement generally is a) "You haven't had a decent stout then" followed by b) "You're a wuss!" if A has been fulfilled :D

Most people think a stout is a Milk Stout. They don't have a high alc% and it's the kind of beer, which, if you like drinking coffee you'll probably enjoy a stout too. Everyone I've given a stout to has enjoyed it. Else do it next time? Finish them off with a Triggerfish Titan in their faces .

Yeah or a Hardcore IPA :D

I am rapidly coming to the realisation that I'm going to have to have a pre-tasting, tasting. For research purposes of course!

BTW, when are they having the Joburg Festival of Beer again?? The one at Marks Park? It's normally around this time of year?

TBH the only craft beer festival worth going to locally is the Clarens one.

After going to that the rest of them really aren't all that wonderful.

Riot Beer IPA and Golden Ale are really top notch.

If you are in Woodstock by the Palms center you should do yourself a favour and stop there for a beer - according to them their pizzas are also top tier - but I try and refrain from eating pizza.

In the "world", all but 2 are American... I highly highly doubt the top 25 beers in the world are all from the states, in fact I doubt in a true world Top 25 that any American beer would make it.

I've done Belgium, Germany and the U.S. in the last two years, and albeit that the Belgian beers are incredible, some of the American beers were amazing, and I only tried the bourbon county stout. I can only imagine what those hill farmstead ales must be like. I don't necessarily think that list is as biased as you think.

Just popped in at the woodstock brewery tap & grill for a quick beer. Really enjoying their Belgian amber ale. Food looked really good as well.
