Not too heavy on the hops. Nice and refreshing after a day in the sun.

Nothing to dislike, but it's nothing wow either. Still nice ice cold out the fridge on a warm day. Bonus points for being a local unfiltered beer.

I'm quite enjoying this one. Reminds me a lot of the Köstritzer.

Copperlake make some good beers.

Nothing too exciting or out there but consistently good.

There are plenty local unfiltered beers :)

What's the general consensus here? Personally I don't think that the bottle conditioned beers travel particularly well, in my experience there's an issues with over carbed local beers big time. CBC, Jack Black and possibly Devils Peak(?) seem to filter, and their beer are pretty consistent and generally good. Again, just my opinion.

I've had plenty bottle conditioned beers that have been awesome.

I think a big issue comes down to the bottling and sanitation practices of breweries - your beer can be amazing but if you allow bugs to go into the bottle with the beer the end product that the consumer tastes is not going to be wonderful.

100% agree. I have had some amazing bottle conditioned beers, but the success of local ones is extremely low.

What are the thoughts here on contract brewed beers?

I used to think that it wasn't such an issue - and that any craft beer is good beer - however I now lean more towards shying away from contract brewed beers.

I find a lot of them are no where near as good as the beers that are brewed by the brewery.

So, in your opinion, Darling Brew, Jack Black, Striped Horse, Citizen are not as good?
Just asking :D

On the whole, yes.

Also whenever these "breweries" are at events you will never have the brewer serving the beer - usually just some local person who doesn't know that much about the beer.

Contract brewing as a means to get your brand out there before starting your own brewery is one thing - but I get the feeling that a lot of these contract brews are just trying to jump on the craft beer bandwagon.

I tend to agree. We have one beer on the market that is currently contract brewed, but it will be taken in house as soon as we're happy with our own brewery's consistency.

I reckon those are consistently some of the best beers in the country. I'd rather have a well made contract beer than some of the swill some guys are putting out.

I would throw Devils peak in there as well. Very good consistency.
