The Craft Beer Thread

I have enjoyed pretty much most to all craft beers I have tasted, granted not that many.

But this is the first beer I don't like at all. It's not bad, I just don't like it. It's really rich.

I am a big Soul Barrel fan, but I also really struggled with this one.

I do not like the Sorghum :(

Sorghum has a very unique taste - but if you dont like weisse you wont like this either.

I quite enjoyed it but I do love my weisse one of my favorite styles. This is why I love trying as much craft beer as possible - finding what you love, cause we all do have different tastes.

I am busy drinking this as I am typing now.

Apiwe actually sparked one of my beer making projects this year where I tried to make a proudly South Africa new style sorghum beer (+-40% mash bill) not umqombothi. I took a 30L batch split it 6 ways, made two different yeast strain wit beers, weiss beer, saison, ale, Neipa and IPA. The local craft brewers chapter held their last event for the year where I decided to join and bring some of these for people to try. To my surprise Apiwe was there too and I was able to share this with her. Was quite a special interaction a truly wonderful "brewster" and she quite liked my brew which was essentially a homage to her brews.

Here is my sorghum weiss

And Neipa

Seriously difficult grain to brew with and very limited information was available on it, ended up reading 3-4 scientific journal articles on how to incorporate it - was a very fun project though!

Must admit Weiss is my least favourite beer :)

I am super glad that I was able to go to Soul Barrel earlier this year have a few of their brews in my beer fridge that I am very keen to try.

What I find with their entire range is they are likely one of the most "experimental" breweries that I have been to and this is likely driven by most of their beers being barrel aged or open fermented. They definitely don't play it safe at all.

They have a bunch of fruity beers I really enjoyed
