The Droid TV thread

Good gawd, the Apple TV 4th gen is the most useless media player. Reminded why I despise iDevices, zero flexibility, iTunes only, faq it piece of schit!

Bizarre that such a recent device can be so low res, I didnt think 1080p would be so bad but even the stock wallpapers/screensavers are blocky and crap res.

Main reason I got one is I was hoping the Siri was full blown Siri, ask anything do anything but nope only media related questions. "how old is Clint Eastwood" bleh...

A wireless N TP-Link router will work just fine for about R700.
You will just not be able to go above 150/300mbps speeds with a non AC 5G router.
5G routers are quite expensive too.
If you still have old firmware on, you can upgrade to v1.7b.
Hi xmbcfan

Will v1. 7b work on my hph v6. Rk3288

Android 4.4.2
Model ugoos-ut3s

V1.7b will work on both HPH & UT3 devices.

It actually has 16GB storage.
The Android OS, userdata partition and perhaps a Linux dual-boot partition is using up the rest of the space.
There has been more than 10 firmware updates since the one you currently have on the device.
Can you check in Android Settings - About what dates they mention there?

You still have KitKat, the Lollipop firmware has vast improvements to media playback and changes to Kodi, Netflix and Youtube.
You can play 1080p Youtube and Netflix works correctly.
Kodi also supports DTS/AC3, DTSHD,TrueHD, Dolby Atmos sound without any problems.

Marshmallow firmware is also being worked on the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that.
It should provide even better media playback.

You can follow this guide to update the firmware.

Upgrading from KitKat to Lollipop and flashing full firmware, the device will be erased clean and start over.
So you can make a backup of any passwords beforehand.
If you login to a lot of sites, maybe try a password manager that remembers all your passwords and save them for easy access in the future?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.callpod.android_apps.keeper&hl=en
Most apps also allow you to login with your Google account.
After you are on new firmware, you can try an app like titanium backup to backup all your apps.

You can also download apps from https://apkpure.com/ then just install them again on the new firmware, much faster than installing from Google Play again.

@ SL1v3R

Not sure if you've even tried, but have you had any luck getting Hulu to work on the Shield?

The best is to get the Android TV version of the apps so that it works with a remote and shows up in your Apps section.

I don't subscribe to Hulu anymore but you can get Hulu for Android 1.4.3 from APKMirror They also have Spotify Music for Android TV 0.9.5

You can get Vevo 5.2.7 from apkpure.com as well as Pandora Radio for TV 2.0.10

Once again, awesome! Works great.

You know what I was trying to do. I was getting the apk from xda-developers. Tried a few different ones. The best I got was to view the list of Hulu contents. Would refuse to play a vid.

1280 x 720 is HD! So it can :)

But 720x480 is not HD, it's DVD resolution.
Where do you get 1280 x 720, it's not the Android screen resolution.
Video resolution switches dynamically depending on the video.
When you set your PC's resolution to 1920x1080 and play a 360p internet stream, it's not FHD, it's still a 360p resolution video being played. Hope it makes sense.

I don't quite understand what you are talking about. I do not use a pc. Only my MxIII with the kodi os, on my 55in flat screen connected thru a 4mbit line. Netflix works 100% up to 1280x720 resolution. But it is using the old h264 codec. H265 streams do play 100% at 1920x1080@60fps The box can go 3840x2160@30fps but my tv can not :( Oh, and the 5.1 audio is very VERY nice

It only plays Netflix at 720x480 resolution.
The MXIII(S805,S812 & S905) is not Netflix certified.
You need to be Netflix certified to play HD or FHD.
http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/12...-tv-box-play-full-hd-or-4k-videos-in-netflix/
You also need Widevine Level 1 certification that you can check with DRM Info.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo
The only Amlogic devices that are certified are Wetek and Xiaomi.
When you run a Netflix test video, you will see you can't go higher than 1500/1750kbps bitrate, only 2500kbps or higher is HD/FHD.
Here is a test video to see.

Or are you using Netflix in a browser instead of the Android app then 720p might be doable sometimes but navigation is going to be a nightmare?

Hi guys. I have the S905 Android TV Box, Kodi is buffering so much and its impossible to watch a movie. I have a 2 Mbps line and i have capped account. I know when i use youtube, i can watch videos and pause it to buffer but with the TV box i cant seem to- when i pause a movie, it doesnt carry on downloading the movie.

Any advice will be appreciated and tips.

Or you are using the 'right' addon ;) I know we are not allowed to discuss that on this forum but if you're fairly good with Kodi addons and skin settings, there is a rather easy way. And yes, the browser way works too but why bother with it :D

I had a 2Mbps line when I started off with my S905 box and had the same issue. Upgraded to 4Mbps and was sorted. I would also recommend an ethernet connection over WiFi - the wireless receivers on these units are usually not great - so maybe try the ethernet connection first and if that doesn't sort you out, a line speed upgrade might be your best bet.

Test with a Vox fat pipe test account or Axxess capped account before you give up. You can get an Axxess 1gb capped account for free.
I'd say 4Gb is likely what you need but try those options first. Also, use cable LAN not WiFi.
