The Droid TV thread

Sheet, that's a no budget android media player!!

It's closer to 10k going by what some BoBers (is that even a word? :p ) are asking for that lot. And that's excluding some items like the stand, cases.
TBH, it doesn't make me feel particularly better about it though. lol

Ok so DSTV Now is not compatible with the Shield. Not only does it not work but it doesn't show up at all in the store to download.
I had to sideload the app. SideLoad Launcher in conjunction with ES File Explorer. Didn't work. Booted me straight to the home screen.
I got quite a few other "not supported" media apps on there to work, but not that one.
So yeah, major bummer.

A new version of the app was released in the last day or two that supports up to Nougat

I got the Rii trackpad + keyboard from Gearbest on a sale for like 300 bucks (Goes for 800 + on Takealot).
Very nice device, aluminium casing, slim design - solid.
Works well with Android media player.
I find it more accurate than my Rii airmouse.

I'll give it a shot.

BTW, got the SuperSport app to work. Some ridiculous bug that would give me "wrong username/password" errors if I typed my login details using the Shield controller. As soon as I attached and typed via keyboard everything worked great.

Just under 8k for what you saw in the pic (as well as a custom fit carry case for the system itself and protective cases for the two controllers) and shipping and customs fees.
So yeah, not exactly cheap.
Phew, and i thought me paying R1800 for my box was expensive :D

Hi guys can anyone please help me with best router for the nagrace hph nt-v6.

Waiting for vdsl 4meg line with webafrica. Not very clued up on all this.

My problem is if Android box uses 802.11ac Wi-Fi would i need a router thats compatible?

A wireless N TP-Link router will work just fine for about R700.
You will just not be able to go above 150/300mbps speeds with a non AC 5G router.
5G routers are quite expensive too.
If you still have old firmware on, you can upgrade to v1.7b.

Hows the Zyxel*
VMG1312 R899? Vdsl compatible.

Few of isp sell them.

Telkom coverage map says 4meg in my area only and vdsl available.

Not sure if ill be using adsl or vdsl as telkom still need to check line to house.

Would vdsl be better for streaming?

You can get AC compatible Tplink or Asus routers for around R1k or under, check takealot, some may not have a builtin ADSL modem but then you can just use your current router/modem for the ADSL modem and plug that into the AC router.

If you are buying a new router it doesn't make sense not to get an AC router, most newer devices support it and its much faster/better range.

Great would this be a good choice and will I be able to use vdsl? Need built in modem aswell.

I have an Archer C9 - Fantastic device. 12 wireless and 4 wired devices at peak without a hitch and covers my 1000m2 yard - even if 2 are streaming HD.

Quite a bit more expensive than this one but gives an idea of TP-Link quality.

However you wont be able to connect to a VDSL line with it. Telkom can set your line to ADSL even at 20Mb/s but ADSL is a bit slower at the same sync speed and you'll potentially sync a lot slower depending on distance to exchange. Further you are the bigger the diff.

An AC client device can connect to a B/G/N network as well - will just be slower. This is only a problem if many wireless devices are connected as its got less total bandwidth than AC.

If you can afford it get a separate router and modem (you do want fiber later not?) - else you'll need a VDSL router.

Thank you for the advice
