The Droid TV thread

I'm testing Sickbeard on the DroidTV MX, will post results shortly.

Hey guys

DroidTVs are back in stock :)

Is anyone else experiencing audio sync issues with xbmc on the droidtv?

Using another player on the droidtv it works fine
I'd be interested to know if the updated firmware fixes this (See OP).

:D Got my replacement DroidTv up and running, thanks to AvSupply with their awesome after sale service and putting customer first (rare thing these days). :)
I tested it and all is working as expected and more.

I connected the audio via Spdif to my amplifier and it's working nicely. I just want to add that you can use supplied 3.5mm jack/RCA for digital( I didn't know before). The 3.5mm goes into spdif and then you use the RED RCA for coaxial to amp.

Streaming plugins via Xbmc etc. is amazing.
Tested and working: pushing media from android phone (photos and videos from gallery) to Xbmc and supplied media center works, didn't think it would, so glad.
My media is also streaming flawless from server via samba to Droidtv via Ethernet.
Yatse android remote for Xbmc also functions as expected and also streams back to phone via Yatse stream plugin.

Problem we had with buddy of mine where Netflix app gets stuck at logon screen happened to me as well after eskom power dip. After a lot of searching I found solution( clearing app cache didn't fix as well as a re-install). It seems the box looses date and time and reverts to 1970 something. Netflix app will refuse to login due to this. Go to settings and make sure at date and time it's auto date time is selected. Worked like a charm for me.

Well no complaints from me so far. Thanks to all the other members here that recommended this box and are always eager to give advise and support. Glad I went with this box, saved me huge costs on building a htpc.
Now just to find working webcam/mic for skype:whistle:

Hi Phrozin,

Glad we eventually got you up and running, and it's awesome to hear the DroidTV is performing better than expected :D

I've just done the 1.1.8 firmware update and will report any pros and cons. So far I've noticed the regular android launcher is not included, but there are so many freebies out there that It's easy to pick one that you like and install that. The regular gbox launcher is included and it's really good for the stock remote or those who don't have airmouse. XBMC has some bug fixes I believe.

Anyone interested can download it here:
http://matricom.net/forum/index.php?topic=11425.0
Install according to instructions on the OP if you have a version prior to 1.1.7, or use recovery mode if you have 1.1.7 (use the toothpick reset method in OP to get to recovery mode)

Android OS is still 4.2.2 in this release.
N.B. Download the Gapps .zip and install that using recovery mode as well to fix the market and others.

Just upgraded to 1.1.8.

Unfortunately it seems that BBC iPlayer doesn't recognise the ethernet connections as a valid internet connection. Used to work on 1.1.6 though.

1.1.8 is definitely an early beta so I went back to 1.1.7s - it's very stable. Not sure about iPlayer - haven't tested it yet. 1.1.8 is missing a bunch of stuff probably because they're still testing XBMC etc. before adding the rest.

I was interested in this device...but then I saw the you tube reviews...and I don't think I'll be getting one. :o

I own a Stylus android 2.3.3 player... And I like it a lot, my only gripe is the CPU and GPU power and memory is a little underpowered. I am expecting this to be similar, just better.

Not sure what you were using yours for, but the droidTV streams anything I've thrown at it. Certainly not underpowered. It's also on a newer version of Android. I recommend upgrading the stock firmware to the 1.1.7x (see the opening post of this thread).

I also use it for my .nzb and torrent downloads, it's a NAS box with sambadroid, and of course, it does almost anything else you can do on Android. I would suggest you get the wireless airmouse or Mele F10 Pro controller (includes keyboard and air mouse) - they make it way easier to operate.

For the non-tech folk, only consider it for out of the ordinary stuff if you have someone technically inclined to set it up.

I'd challenge anyone to find a media box that does as much as the DroidTV can do.
The only gripe is using it for streaming online media - it does the job, but you have to get the right .apk files and install them yourself. That said, the biggest issue with streaming media in SA is NOT the hardware, but the internet line.

In most of the reviews I watched, everyone brought up the fact that FHD movies (locally, not streamed) stuttered and that the UI was really bad. (Even with all the updates.) If there's a slight possibility that this may be true, I'd rather not take the chance. But that's just me. :)

EDIT: Also, I don't believe it plays Div-X (avi's)...but I speak under correction...that could have changed in the meantime.
Wait...or maybe it was the Roku3...shucks, I can't remember now :o (And, of course, I'm waaay too lazy right not to go check! :D )

I've never seen anything that it didn't play well, even multi GB HD movies. The only reason it struggled with some of them was streaming over HD, which I've fixed now by repositioning my PC's wifi adapter. It was the PC at fault, not the Droid TV unit.

The UI is fine, its just Android and XBMC. Really nothing unusual.

Definitely plays DivX AVIs and HD, though you might find some fussy folk who argue about 1080 vs 720 upscaled, etc.
Plays m4v, mp4, etc. etc.
Playing those formats has nothing to do with the box - it's android. If android can play it, the DroidTV can play it. Perhaps those were done when the firmware was new?
