The Droid TV thread

You made a statement, a past tense statement, which wasn't even a full sentence. A question would have looked something like "Can the MXQ box stream Netflix?"
Oh ok.

Then,

Can the mxq box stream Netflix?

I setup my Shield last night. I have to say, it’s substantially faster than the mi box. I was really surprised. My mi box was always a little dodgy, often skipped audio on all apps, and was just a little slow. I had a usb Ethernet dongle, so the connection was ok, but man am I impressed by the shield.

Wonder if you run a Plex server, I would like to know if the shield can direct play 4K 10bit HDR Atmos HEVC files from a Plex server. Tried a few different players & they seem to transcode so would like to know if the Shield is my solution for Direct Play. Anybody with such a setup?

It supports all those things individually so in theory it should work, also I want to watch movies at your house.

The Nvidia Shield is great. Did you receive the Oreo update?

Hehehe well we'll need a player that direct plays, the transcoding is resulting in not so smooth playback, especially the higher bitrate content. Tried the FireTV 3 and it only plays max 35Mbps bitrate, but even lower bitrate files transcode. Would appreciate if someone has experience with such a setup with all the pieces together thrown at a Shield

You get what you pay for...

100% but the Shield is in its own unique user bracket. I for example don’t have any media that I struggle with transcoding nor do I have a setup that would fully benefit from having this media.

But when you consider the MiBox price and all other boxes in the same bracket it’s a no brainer what the choice should be. Might not be on par in terms of hardware features but it damm well does the job perfectly.

I got the Oreo update , but so far it’s kinda of meh. I have to tel you hardware wise nothing beats the shield. Interface wise it sucks donkey balls. The fire stick has a better interface (and actual Hulu updates, while the shield still uses the Hulu app from last year October ). But yes hardware wise it kicks ass

I indeed the Shield is great. For sometime, I have been thinking of setting up Plex Server on the Shield until yesterday, suspecting I will start noticing performance degradation because the contents are sitting on an external hard drive but nothing so far.

My shield updated, finally no more recommendations bar!!! And you can turn off all the "channels" so you just have a list of apps on the home screen, how it took so long for this I will never know. Although you still can't change the wallpaper :/
