The Droid TV thread

How does the WD my cloud work? Will I be able to access the stuff on the wd via the mx?

Can I put a sd card in the droittv mx to increase its speed and so on? I haven't received it yet but I think its good to know if it will make a difference.

Regarding channels, I know 1channel is a must but what about mashup, ustvnow and icefilms?

Do you need unotelly for these to work?

I think it would be pointless as the internal memory is really fast.

Is there a point in having hulu and netflix then seeing that there is such big variety of shows and movies available?

I'd say get a trial for both to test them. It boils down to your ISP and how well they perform on your line. Bearing in mind that they're not easy to configure and buy for starters. At least with a trial you're not out of pocket, but make sure you cancel before the time is up otherwise you get billed - at least for Netflix. You can get a trial of unotelly as well. They both have nice interfaces but to be honest, I used them then ditched them after a short while - I wasn't spending enough time on either.
Just bear in mind that you must get the right .apk installation file for the service (look at the opening post).

I already have netflix, hulu and unotelly, been using it on the ps4. So just wanted to know if most of the stuff there is available on xbmc channels

I think you would have to try it yourself to be honest. The thing is you might end up with a bunch of add-ons that you have to work through for the few things you like - it depends on what you watch. Netflix and Hulu do a good job of keeping it all in one tight interface. Add-ons for XBMC are all written by different people - some are official, some not. Hang onto them and let us know your opinion.

ok thanks will advise once I get my player.

also just a thanks to avsupply for the help so far.

So I got my mx box and setup it up easily. Have all the addons loaded. There is way more on here than on netflix and hulu.

Only issue I have though is I cant sream in HD and I have a 4mb line, is there a way to get it to load faster or maybe get it to "preload" favourites?

My line is with AH, should I maybe look at moving my line?

Edit: on 1channel I can only watch shows in SD with no buffering but on icefilms I can watch show in HD with no buffering. What is the difference?

@avsupply maybe you can add some insight into this?

Thanks

4Mb should be fine, though not sure about HD. Mostly it boils down to your ISP and the product you chose from them. What are you using currently? Uncapped accounts are not as good as capped. Afrihost has fairly well priced capped accounts at the moment, and the Webafrica 50 + 50Gb free when you buy 5Gb for this and next month is pretty good too.

Agree that 4mb should be ok so give it a go. AH should be fine for streaming as long as you don't use a plug in that uses torrent protocols. Ps. 1channel is sd only while ice films has hd sources as well. Often the hd source severs are overloaded so they will either not start or take forever to start and then buffer during playback. IStream channel is also worth a look.

I have a 4MB capped account with AH but I think I will need to move it to an uncapped package as I have used 52GB so far for the month. But capped is always full speeds with no throttling at all. I use icefilms mostly as everything we watched on hulu and netflix is found here.

I use bestrem and movreel to watch what I want as well and they seem to work best for me.

So would you guys say I have to move to uncapped or maybe stay on capped? I dont mind topping up during the month.

You'll be frustrated with the speed and throttling on uncapped IMO unless it's a business product, in which case it will likely be more expensive than capped, though perhaps you should check closer to the end of the month.

Thats what made me get capped in the first place. They throttled the hell out of me when I was on uncapped.

I will rather move it to a 10mb capped line and just topup as needed.

What amount of data do you use on only streaming?

I tested it with the ps4 and hulu and we used about 3GB for the day, from 8am till 8pm.

Will xbmc use about the same amount of data?

I must be honest, I'm doing less streaming and more downloading. I prefer to watch what I want when I want without ads or glitches.

Juat to add if anyone watches MotoGP, SBK and F1 get motor sports replays as an addon as it is there and quality is awsome

Hi Guys

Was wondering if the droid TV is able to connect to Netflix US and Hulu and to the BBC iPlayer without changing anything? (obviously with using Unotelly or similar)

Looking at getting a Roku 3 but need a channel that show the F1 which is difficult on a US roku from what I can find.

Thanks
