How you finding 1.2, does it seem a little TOO fast?

How you finding 1.2, does it seem a little TOO fast?
Where did you buy it from? Proper Matricom boxes are much more expensive.
Even if you have an official Matricom box, it is recommended that you do a manual flash. If you are on 1.1.6, then it is not too bad.
No it is fine. I don't like the new launcher because it's air mouse support is not great. Couldn't figure out how to scroll down in a list of apps using the mouse only. So I am using the old style launcher, which works fine for me.
XBMC loads up much, much faster.
Only issue I have is that although this was supposed to be the 1080p release, they removed a crucial feature which means I can't use 1080p yet. They removed the ability to manually set your HDMI resolution, so the box defaults to 720p and not 1080p. Because of that, I can't set the resolution any higher in XBMC.

The problem I have with the android software and Xbmc is that it "loses" my hard drives sometimes and nearly always when I unplug them and plug them back in. What this means is when I try to select a movie from the metadata it will tell me no movie found and I have to do the whole adding files to library again. Also with the new software the video looks stretched out when selecting 1080p. Have to go back to Openelec and get real 1080p as I use it mostly for Xbmc anyway. Gonna have to use Plexbmc again though I really like the android Plex app, because after one day on the new software the wife is complaining she can't get anything to work. A woman in the last stages of pregnancy shouldn't be trifled with.

Not really an option as the home network is not that great. The drives were attached to the PC previously but when viewing HD content it would be buffer every now and again and was a bit of a pain as you can imagine. What I do now is copy everything that downloaded when I get from work. With Openelec it works fine as it recognizes the names of the hard drives so no matter if they are plugged out when you plug back in it sees them. The NAS is a great solution and I've looked into it but like I said it will be a waste on my current home network.

NAS is a standalone device with network port that makes the drive availalble on the LAN without need for a PC. Think of it as an external drive with a LAN port.
@neoassasin, you could try sambadroid and share the drive locally, and access it via samba, though I'm not sure how that would work. It would still be local, but shared via a samba share.
Do you know why it's not being found after reconnecting? Are you using the same port each time?
What about using something like this:

I tried OpenElec over the weekend, but its not an option for me at the moment until I figure out how to make it connect to my Squeeze Server (music server) running my PC. The XSqueeze plugin is marked as incompatible when I try to install it using OpenElec (arm version obviously), but there is an Android app that works quite well.
As far as I understand, NAS, bein Network Attached Storage, means a drive that is basically connected to a mini server. So you connect your NAS to a network and not via a USB cable.
@neoassasin, I'm lucky that my router is at my TV, so NAS, DroidTV, router, and TV are all connected via ethernet with excellent network speeds. Maybe get a better wlan router, 150mbps - 300mbps on the free Telkom routers. My NAS has a built in torrent client too, PC is off most days

@Arietans I have no idea. What happened previously was I would use XBMC then add videos from sda1 or sda2, which were the 2 externals, and everything would work great. When I removed them to copy and put them back in they would have to be in the exact same ports or there would be problems with metadata. Even adding a normal flash drive and turning on the device it would detect the flash drive as sda1 since it would be the one that started up first. So I have to be sure which device boots up first to ensure that it's sda1. Like I said I'll just go back to 1.16 and install the latest Openelec it's true 1080p, uses little resources, is much faster and reads the name of the external so no problems with the library.

I have the Netgear DGN2200 and a wireless repeater, but the distance, walls and such in between and interference from other appliances doesn't really give great performance. It's fine for internet streaming and gaming on my PS3 but not always great for network streaming. There are days when I use Plex on my Samsung TV where I can stream a 6 gig HD movie with no problems and other days when streaming a 1.5 gig HD episode buffers often. Then I have to restart computer, reset modems, check plugs and so forth. The most painless currently is to copy the new stuff after work.

I've cabled my box - I'm not a wifi fan. It's convenient, but not efficient.

Bit more feedback on the test I conducted in regards to issue net access speed issue with my M8.
1: Some users on Freaktab mentioned that applying the CPU related patches to finless 1.8 rom resolved the net access speed issues. So I tried applying all the available CPU patches on finless 1.8 rom but no success.
2: Brought a 4 port switch and connected all my devices with it (No Wi-Fi). All the devices are able to access internet fine at full speed accept M8. Takes more than 5 minutes to download 1 mb file on my 4mpbs connection on M8.
3: To eliminate ISP related issues, I registered for WebAfrica free account and conducted speed test on all my devices connected via cable. All the devices are getting full speed upload and download. But same issue with M8.

@iru786: There must be some type of hardware fault to cause such slow WiFi and ethernet speeds. I'm sure that you will be much happier with the replacement! These android devices do usually undergo a number of tests before packing but I guess the networking on your unit was never checked.

Besides speed and 1080p capability is their any other reason to install openelec on these boxes. Surely you lose so much functionality by not going the Android route ie Netflix, Hulu, bbc iplayer etc + play store + Web browser etc etc

Openelec is mainly if you want to use the box as an XBMC machine. I've used some of the other features but the one I use the most is XBMC and the others are nice to haves. If I wanted to use any of the other video apps mentioned, I'm sure Netflix and Hulu will be fixed for Gotham, I can use them on XBMC. Also the video add ons available on XBMC are much better than Netflix, Hulu and iPlayer combined. I don't have to worry about DNS or Unotelly either. If I feel like using those I'll just use my TV or my phone for Play Store or the web browser. I might check out Avsupply's customised firmware but for now I prefer XBMC on Openelec.
