The Droid TV thread

Hi Guys,
Bit more feedback on the test I conducted in regards to issue net access speed issue with my M8.

1: Some users on Freaktab mentioned that applying the CPU related patches to finless 1.8 rom resolved the net access speed issues. So I tried applying all the available CPU patches on finless 1.8 rom but no success.

2: Brought a 4 port switch and connected all my devices with it (No Wi-Fi). All the devices are able to access internet fine at full speed accept M8. Takes more than 5 minutes to download 1 mb file on my 4mpbs connection on M8.

3: To eliminate ISP related issues, I registered for WebAfrica free account and conducted speed test on all my devices connected via cable. All the devices are getting full speed upload and download. But same issue with M8.

Thanks for all the tests

Your replacement will be with you on Friday. Please package the M8 box and get ready for the courier to drop off and collect. Only give the courier the M8 box AND power supply

Thanks

Does anyone have experience with mytotal.tv?

Is this a paid service or is it currently free? Let us know what you think as I would be very interested.

Has anybody else tried jsheed_sa's free Unotelly type DNS proxy on the DroidTV MX/M8 etc.? The IP address is 154.127.60.71 (just enter in your router's DNS settings page). Currently it only supports US based services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus but he is planning to extend support to other countries if he can raise sufficient funds. Netflix appears to be working well but Hulu Plus returns with an SSL Error [143]. Let me know if anybody manages to get Hulu Plus working on their android box using this DNS.

Hi all,

Is anyone using the droidtv with plexbmc? I'm quite interested in knowing if the thumbnails load fast in the movies section when scrolling rapidly in the Amber skin. It's quite slow on my HTPC currently but I think that's due to the mechanical drive.

When in XBMC mode it loads as fast as I can scroll but that's not the case when in plex mode.

@Avsupply Do you have any idea how to setup a service like unotelly or this vpn service on your droid tv sir? And not on your router? If anyone would know I am sure that it would be you.. master..

I assume you have dns Ip like unotelly. For now lets go with that.If you have Unotelly, they have a nifty android app to update Ip on the box in case of power failure or when modem gets new external ip:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.unotelly&hl=en

Now there is two ways to do it via Ethernet configuration or Wireless lan(it depends how you connect.
1.1. For Ethernet, go to Settings, Ethernet, Ethernet configuration.
1.2 There you would have to change to static. Choose a ip that is not in use to avoid Ip conflict for your M8/mx2, then enter subnet of your network, then there is a place to add the dns Ip and gateway Ip(normally my modem) if you have one.
1.3 Save and you're set, remember to update ip for unotelly after this.

2.1. Note with WiFi it's similar except that you can enter 2 dns addresses than only one for ethernet.
2.2. Go into settings, Wifi, enable wifi and connect to home network. Then click on your wifi name and select "advanced options"
2.3. Here you also can enter a static Ip for your box, subnet and gateway, as well as 2 dns addresses . Then save and you're done
The dns addresses is the address resceived from dns provider like unotelly

Hope it helps;)

@Phrozin: Very useful post particularly since the free Hulu service has just become available on android devices such as the DroidTV MX and the M8 etc. This should generate a lot more interest in android media players since no subscription is required to watch many of the latest shows unlike on the Roku and the Apple TV.
http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/31/you-can-now-watch-some-shows-on-hulu-for-android-without-hulu-plus/

If anybody is interested you need to download the latest version 2.14.1.201748 of the Hulu app and create a free account (no CC details etc. required).
https://www.sendspace.com/file/7yz6xa

You will need to either sign up for a free week of Unotelly (www.unotelly.com) or you can use the following PlaymoTV limited free DNS addresses (214.5.182.127, 213.5.182.117). These addresses have to be entered into your router to circumvent the geographic restrictions. Earlier this evening I watched a few episodes of the entertaining new Swedish TV4/NBC comedy series, Welcome to Sweden on Hulu. You will need to either download episode 1 or stream it directly from VideoMix/NBC.com since only the latest three episodes appear to be available on the free service. The DNS might require changing to 154.127.60.71 to get the NBC app to stream (no DNS needed for VideoMix).

Pleasure, Yotch and thanks a million for the info on Hulu, tested and working beautifully. Made one of my friends very happy(including myself)

Dunno if i shoudl post this here:
I'm getting my externall HDD ready for my Droid :)

my root folder of my hdd has the ffg folders:

Documents
Backups
Media

The Media folder has subfolders:

Photos and Video
Movies
TV
Conferences audio and video
Miscellaneous Video
Must I move the Movie and TV subfolders to the root folder for XBMC to recognise?

I don't think it should be a problem.

When you setup XBMC, you need to add your media folders. So you can set your media folders to the locations where they are. My media folders are on my downstairs PC, for instance.

Is this the M8 or different one. I was planning to buy the MX, but since it is out of stock, which to I buy now. Or shpuld I wait for a new one?
