The Droid TV thread

Regarding the android navigation keys do these appear with the 3D launcher? I don't think that I've ever seen them on mine or maybe I need to check more carefully!

Hi again Yotch. Thanks for the input. Would be grateful if you can revert on PS3 format if you have the means. Yes, the navigation keys appear in some parts of the 3D launcher. When they're there, I can access the pull down notification tab too. Bit frustrating knowing there are notifications but you need to find a screen with the navigation keys to be able to access the notifications. Thanks for your guidance.

Another... The Android navigation keys that sometimes appear at the bottom of the screen on the DroidTV, how do I get them to stay there consistently?
I have a Minix droid box, and if I understand you correctly, what I do is drag (holding the OK button) the pointer from the bottom of the screen upwards, which makes them visible.

The PS3 may be a bit problematic as that usually requires FAT32 which means that you won't be able to store files larger than 4GB. I'll try to find out what other options are available.

For PS3 and Android use, it makes sense to create 2 partitions on the drive

Obviously the PS3 will only be able to use the Fat32 partition, so keep playstation specific content on that partition

Hi Balky. Not the case here. They're either visible or not. Of not visible you need to open an app that has them visible. Same applies to notifications. If the navigation bar is visible along the bottom of the screen, the notification tab can be pulled down from the top left of the screen.

The new media launcher has an option to unhide the system bar, see if there is an option under "display" in Android settings

That hides it entirely. Was hoping to keep it there consistently. Busy switching between speed test and any application that's going to show me a movie with my horrid adsl connection. So it'd be nice to be able to access the tabs of open apps to switch from one to the other.

Download the "Nova" launcher from the Play store

When installed, choose to use it once and take it for a spin. It's very easy to customize with your Gyrocopic mouse, just click and hold icons to drag them to the main launcher window, or click and hold in the middle of the screen to bring up nova settings (here you can change desktop background, add widgets, etc.)

@silkman: Good to hear that you can now stream wirelessly from your PC. You can also use the Samba app which comes preloaded on the DroidTV to stream files from your PC using the standard video player instead of XBMC. You must just look for the relevant file on your PC from inside the Samba app on the DroidTV and it should launch the video player automatically.

Unfortunately this kind of USB cable is very difficult to find locally. The HDCabling one appears to be 3m long. Just phone them to confirm the length. Due to the resistance of the 3m cable and the 1A current draw from the hard drive the voltage reaching the hard drive will be reduced by several tenths of a volt. There may also be a reduction in data transfer speed due to increased signal loss/noise along the length of the cable. The best solution would be to either wait for stock at AVSupply or order one of these from eBay or DX.
