The Droid TV thread

@silkman: I hope that you get your XBMC sorted! Are you using XBMC for streaming purposes or just for playing content off a hard drive etc.? If you haven't been exiting XBMC properly in the past, it might be a good idea to do so once you have everything running again. You need to press the Power button (or use the Power menu) before leaving XBMC to avoid possibly corrupting files when you turn off your machine. You need to do this with most XBMC installations. When you have some free time, try to post a few pics of your projector setup if possible.

Will try to get pics asap yotch.
I use XBMC mainly for streaming movies from my laptop.
Regarding the XBMC, the power icon on XBMC never worked from day 1- it just froze every time.
Last night after the firmware upgrade movies played fine- but only tested for a few minutes (was dog tired after hours trying to sort it out).
But I still can't understand how after the firmware upgrade the 3rd version of XBMC install and all my wallpapers etc were still present?
ALL other apps were deleted with the factory reset. Even apps that were side loaded.
I'm stumped.
So far the only problem (hopefully) remaining is to get my google account back, the other apps I'm not too worried about as I can just load them again- problem is there is no app installer with this firmware.

Currently ONLY XBMC is installed. What other recommended apps are there for me to install or will the recovery automatically install those apps I had before.

Hi silkman,

Please see my earlier response below to get your google apps back

"You need to install the google apps manually

Follow the same recovery procedure after downloading this file -> http://matriserver.com/firmware/matricom-gapps-jb-signed-v3.zip

Thanks J
I was just cofused as to why the xbmc came back but not all the other apps.

Xbmc's data is being stored in SDcard/Android/Data/org.xbmc.xbmc (not the emulated "android" folder, but via root)
That being said most Roms when flashed are pre-programmed to format "Data" partition, but some don't so that is probably the reason why you still had xbmc folder(wasn't formatted) . I also backup that folder normally when I wipe my M8.
Hope it helps;)

Thx Phrozin

Makes sense-sort of :)
is there a 1 click solution for backing up my whole setup- apps, xbmc, data etc so if I ever have to reinstall it's a simple process?

@ Silkman, there is sort of:whistle:
This is for M8 device
You can backup individual apps with settings via Titanium backup(don't like that way much) it can also backup all apps, known as "batch backups"
I prefer the TWRP recovery method, but there is risk involved(not much though). You need to replace stock recovery with TWRP(team win recovery project). This just basically replaces the recovery via toothpick method with an alternate recovery app that can backup whole system(except "Data") to Sd card. So you need to flash the TWRP.zip via toothpick method.
Now you have replaced stock recovery with TWRP recovery.
Steps and info on second post from me->http://mbox.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=104&p=211#p211

I used my backup to clone my system to 3 of my friends boxes, so it does work, except the manual copy of data folder for now.

Note, I take no responsibility for any losses however by following this method, bricking of devise included:whistle:

Thank Phrozin..sounds a bit complicated to me- guess I need to get you to add me to your list of "friends" :P

@avsupply- just installed the google apps- busy installing other apps- so far so good!

Thx man.
So just for my understanding, is a repository like its own network with a few video channels?
So if I want to watch bbc, I have to install a repository that has BBC in its package?
If so, where can I get a full list of channels and what repositories need to be installed?
Is a source, add on and a repository the same thing?

My MXIII from AVSupply arrived a few days ago and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with this machine. It has exceeded my expectations on so many levels. The graphics performance of this box is exceptional. As usual the service and support from AVSupply has been top notch.

I had been looking at purchasing a new 32" LCD TV to use with this media player but have been so impressed with the picture quality via the AV port on my old CRT TV that I'm not sure what to do. I have tested a number of different video files and the picture seems so much better than with any other media player that I've used before such as my Realtek RTD1185 based Egreat R6A-II player. This really is an impressive standalone media player and I haven't even tried the 4K playback yet! The processor appears to play back an enormous range of different file formats at bitrates as high as 120Mbps. CNX-Software has tested the playback capabilities of a very similar looking device, the Probox 2 Ex, quite extensively on a number of test files which he describes in the review below. I have also tested the 120Mbps Jellyfish file which plays perfectly.

There are some photographs of the circuit board and internal construction in his unboxing review as well as some reader comments about the similarities with the MXIII.

The superior picture quality is also very evident when streaming from online sites such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus, USDrama etc. Although several of the android apps limit the resolution the picture quality still looks so much better than normal. The box is loaded with so many additional XBMC repositories that I haven't even got round to testing most of them.

Over the next few weeks I'll try to give more feedback about the customised AVSupply firmware together with the various streaming options and XBMC services that come preloaded on this box as there is just so much content available that I can't possibly test it all in just a few days.

If anybody else is thinking about purchasing this device I have come across a few more very informative video reviews for the Probox 2 Ex. The AVSupply firmware looks much more appealing than the one loaded on the Probox but otherwise the video playback and capabilities of the two boxes seem to be identical. I have run the Antutu and Linpack tests on the MXIII and the results are very close to those shown in the videos.

Version 1 of the firmware and that impressed already? Awesome :)

Glad you like the box, now get that HDTV and be even more blown away!!!

So how is the avsupply's customised firmware differs from the standard xbmc gotham release? Any new functionality or features we should look out for? How about some screenshots?
