The Droid TV thread

Why not use the vdubt25/world tv XBMC plugin?
or the Phoenix plugin with 'Woody' live tv streams.
works great.

For HD channels you can try ntv.mx
Channels are much more stable and fixed very quickly, since it's a paid addon.
With the weakening Euro, it costs about R185/month instead of R220 a couple of weeks ago.

For PVR interface with EPG Guide, you can try infusum.tv paid addon for about R260/month

Can also try FTV, Filmon TV addon and FTV Guide, for an EPG Guide.

Will try those when I get a chance ta!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try some of those when I get a chance.

I don't want any paid add-ons though. I already pay for Hulu and Netflix and paying any more would make dstv a cheaper option.

Netflix is on route to SA, gonna be cool and no need for any DNS nonsense.
Woop Woop!

Only thing that sucks is that some of us can't get ADSL at home  25GB + 25GB of 3g/LTE data can only get you so far if you cannot force these streaming devices to stream at 360 or 720 max. They take full advantage of your bandwidth and download full HD all the fekking time

Yeah that sucks man, where u based? Even in my shady town some are doing ADSL2+
Netflix you can tone down to SD last time I checked, Hulu is SD and some XBMC addons also has this functionality. Which app is not allowing you?

You don't need to force the device to use a lower quality, you can do it on your Netflix profile/account online

Except the selection probably won't be as good as the USA Netflix.

Yeah I know - much like the Google Play store, Apple store etc.
We always get the second hand stuff - really

Still not suitable for 1080p 10-bit playback, I think :-(

It does seem to have better specs than the MX Q though. I'm in desperate need of a proper player that is "future proof" enough. I'm thinking of just ordering the Matricom GBox Q from Amazon or eBay.

My MXIII is just to keep me busy with subtitled 8-bit encodes until I can afford a i5 NUC... Unless something more powerful and cheap comes out soon...

The Matricom GBox Q uses the same SOC, PCB, GPU as on the MXIII.
So it's really a MXIII with a Illuminated G on top of the box.

I wouldn't buy it to be honest.
What would you recommend?

Don't get me wrong the SOC is good and Amlogic S802 is excellent on video quality, development from these Chinese companies are not always great. They tend to drop off in support after new chipsets are released, I have a MXIII and although it's not perfect I've seen that Beelink pushes out the most firmware updates for the MXIII.
In total 12 to be exact. That's a a lot and even more than Minix, and Allwinner has produced last year. You even get Octa core Android boxes nowadays but that doesn't matter because the support just plain sucks or is non existent. It's down to developers to make products better ... Some do and some just don't to continue to better the end user experience. In short I like my MXIII. What would you like to do with the box?
I do everything on mine

It will be used for XBMC, Plex, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video. I'll want to play the odd game too.

I use my for Netflix, Hulu Plus, downloading and yes watching content and playing games as well. Not a hardcore gamer but I like emulators which works just ace and a few games. Not a XBMC fan, only when watching bluray ISO. Not an Amazon prime member but that doesn't work on any Android Media Player device anyway that I've read about. Plex client works I believe but I don't wanna run a plex server on my PC.
Going green here ... External hooked up to MXIII
