@avsupply

Borrowed a 3A power supply from someone and issue persists. Could it just be that the usb's or something on the motherboard are not right?
Cos the problem happens with different power supplies and differnet brands of HDD's?

Cool thanks! Anyone know if BBC iPlayer works on this setup? I've had mixed success with it on my two KitKat systems.

Sounds like a hardware problem of the sort. Or maybe it gets hot. Either way If it's 4 months old it should still be within warranty ....

That's what I think.
@avsupply.. Please advise bro.

I feel that swapping the hardware will yield the same result. It's not a hardware problem, it's a USB drive compatibility problem. A lot of people have zero problems with the stock 5V2A supply :(

If you would still like to test the USB ports, please borrow a few friend's external drives

@silkman Are you not using a powered external USB hard drive? If that's the problem I agree with the guys ... I bought a powered enclosure for 250 bucks as I had problems with non powered USB drives that sporadically loses the hard drive, spinning up and down and freezing the unit when I watch content. This was one of the best moves I made, thinking back and spared me lots of frustration.

@avsupply @JvanD I have tried 3 drives and all do the same thing... I wouldn't mind trying the powered enclosure. Would my current hdd just fit into the enclosure with a usb cable? Or would I need to buy another hdd as my current 1 is in a slim enclosure. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but I not a techie.

Nah, not a silly question we are all learning on here ... Lemme check online and see what we can figure out. Maybe a bracket might work but that is going to be a mission, I'll do sum digging for us. Most 2.5" Hdd's are USB powered so that's the main problem, you need a drive that has its own power source. These little boxes already performs if you look at the power rating, so it helps that the drives have their own power source. Enclosures are not that expensive, finding a 2.5" powered one might be a tall order but let's see what we can find online, I'll get back to you Will let you know, k?

Your nearest incredible store has a tech division that can do the job for you.

Really Appreciated jvanD.

Btw I don't mind buying another usb hdd as long as it will work. Cos i need the drive with my movies to be easily carried around. If i get the enclosure would the hdd still work normally with a usb cable on my pc cos i only need the enclosure with my mx2.
I don't know why all the hdd I've tried have a usb compatibility issue. @avsupply I've tried Seagate and Adata drives. Which brand will definitely work.
I could always sell my other hdd.

This isn't a hard drive brand issue. You just need external power to the drive, ooi. Do you live close to incredible connection? You can probably go there and ask them all those questions today - just tell them you need an externally powered hard drive case.

@silkman I don't see anything online, had a long hard look. Best will be to check at Incredible Connection or Matrix warehouse or the like, and let them advise, either a 2.5" powered enclosure that you can use as they don't always have everything on the web. They can even do the fitting etc if they have it. Or else borrow a friends powered external HDD and see if the issue persists.
I would ship you mine if I weren't using it

Thanks again guys. Will call around and see this week.
I still don't understand why I couldn't just get another usb hdd since so many people have the same unit from avsupply and don't use the enclosure? The unit is meant to power a usb hdd without power. So why is mine the only one not working?

Do you have a powered or non-powered USB HUB at home, something like this -> http://www.avsupply.co.za/product_info.php/port-usb-hub-with-multi-card-reader-p-244

If you do, connect your drive to it and then plug the HUB into a USB port on the MX

Does your drive work now?
