The Droid TV thread

My droid box is showing 4.5gb of storage being used up. Kodi is using 2.5gig and the rest about 500mb. How do I find out what the hell is using the other 1.5gb as the storage app is not identifying it.

I currently can't install anything as the device claims there is no space despite it saying 400mb is free.

What device do you have?
Lollipop or KitKat firmware?
You can try to go to Settings, Apps, select Kodi and clear it's cache.
You can also clear data but will probably loose all your addons installed.
The Android OS also use about 1GB of space but it's not part of the free or used space reported in Storage Settings.
Maybe there are temporary files or something using up the space?
You can install a file manager like ES File Manager and go into all the folders to try to find out what is using up the space.

Hi - I just bought 3 x MXQ Pro S905 4k android tv units. I have a few questions since I am new to android - I am replacing my aged roku units with these.

I have read the forums, but I have not been able to get DSTV or supersport apps to work. Supersport gives unkown error when trying to stream - it allows me to login etc but does not stream DSTV app just opens for a second and then closes.

Youtube - Max quality I can set is 480p - is there anyway to get at least 1080p from the app?

Thanks

The supersport app does not work on most androud tv boxes .

Most tv boxes only does 480p youtube ,some limit that youtube has on the app for "cheaper" android devices I think.

Thanks very much. Will look into it

M8S
You will get no firmware updates to solve problems.
Wifi will be very weak, no external antenna.
Device can't play 4K videos in Kodi.
Old outdated CPU & GPU

You can get a RK3368 device for around a R100 more
that has a newer octa-core processor
16GB Storage, double
external wifi antenna
frequent firmware updates.
Plays high bitrate 4K videos smoothly in Kodi.
Own Kodi project backed by the chip manufacturer.
Miracast Support
Android/IOS Remote Control Support
Proper heatsink to run 24/4 without reboots & crashes.

Even with the new S905 CPU devices
4K Kodi was a disaster with several tests I did.
So for the best future proof Kodi video playback I would recommend a RK3368 or a more expensive RK3288 media player.

Is it worth waiting for the Mibox? http://www.mi.com/en/mibox/

By the time it's available there will be RK3399 tv boxes with far better specs.
By the time you buy something it's already outdated and something new will come along.
Everyone has to make their own choice when they buy new technology and do proper research about all the features a device offers and what you will use the most.

Thanks it turned out to be Acestream

Wouldn't recommend Acestream or any torrent apps/addons on Android.
It will wear out your Nand/EMMC storage chip fast and keep leftover cache files that will slow down your devices and fill up the storage.
Rather use normal direct streaming video addons in Kodi and set Kodi to cache to RAM, so the cache is lost upon reboots or shutdowns.

The MXQ Pro/+ tv boxes has been discontinued by the manufacturer and there will no be more support because there were so many hardware & software problems with them.
At the end of the day you get what you paid for.

I would recommend everyone to spend a little more and get a device that works instead of buying a cheap device every time a new chipset comes out.

Thanks - what about getting DSTV working on this unit?

Yeah I used it only as a fall back option for when kodi addons failed to deliver.

I have new boxes to test dstv/ss on just need find a friend with an account.

Both my apps works ,just telling me I need to link my smartcard to my account to view the channel

Showmax also works no problem.

This might just be the box I have been waiting for ,more info on it once I have done the testing.

Which box do you recommend?

I would probably use it to run Kodi and play media. Can you do much more than that on an android tv box?
