The Droid TV thread

I ordered 3x Android boxes off AliExpress on 17/08/2016. The latest tracking info on their site, dated 22/09/2016 reads "held at customs" should I be worried or is this just a standard update on the process? I ordered 2x boxes on a previous occasion without any hiccups. Is there a way to contact someone to organise the release, or should I just wait for it to clear?

Could be ICASA blocking them...

Probably normal. Post office told me any international parcel can take 7 - 21 WORKING days to clear customs. Also, see here for other's experiences and more info - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/836827-Tracking-Parcels

Anyone know if the DSTV now app will work on the MiBox (http://www.mi.com/en/mibox/) or Nvidia shield?

No
On the Nvidia Shield I'm not sure as it runs Marshmallow and DSTV Now usually only works on KitKat tv box firmware and certain cellphone Lollipop firmware.
It would be quite expensive to get an Nvidia Shield just to test DSTV Now but if you want to get one for gaming and just test DSTV Now for interest sake you can do that and let others know if it works.
Showmax works on devices where DSTV Now doesn't work and both apps come from Multichoice.
It is very strange that they don't update the DSTV Now app to work on more devices but they probably want users to use their own decoders instead of on other devices.

how do i update kodi on the android box? i see its a 'RC' version for some damn reason. they should just have used the last stable release. gonna google later but would like feedback from people who have done it.

Nvidia Shield is sold out at most retailers except for some third party resellers. Suggesting new model coming. I am about to order new 4K Mibox with Android TV 6.0.1 however on Razer Forge TV running Android TV os only one version of DSTV Now works..

Depends where RC came from Kodi or tweaked by box manufacturer. If Kodi signature will be same so just install 16.1 . If from Manufacturer signature will be different in which case normally kodi can't install so backup config using kodi. Remove old installation. Install 16.1 then restore backup

There are quite a lot of different tv boxes and Kodi builds for lots of different hardware.
What tv box do you have?
Do you use DTS/AC3 pass-through?
HD Audio playback?
Play any 4K or 3D videos?
Watch live streams or own content?
What codecs do you use most often mp4, x264, hevc, quality - 720p, 1080p?
It will help to see what Kodi will work best for you.
You can also PM if needed then I can explain more.

Will be getting the Nvidia Shield hopefully within the next fortnight. Amazon shipping has been reliable for me in the past.
I'll test the DSTV Now app on it.

Uninstall and install the latest version from the Playstore. Future updates should pop up as they become available

Perfect! Thanks. Considering getting the MiBox or Shield. Both devices should have decent support and updates.

You can try this Kodi, it will work the best.
It might say RC2 but it is actually the final 16.1 Kodi(without the last change to change the version number), you can just disable the version check addon in Kodi or something to get rid of that message.
https://github.com/JamesLinEngineer/RKMC/tree/Jarvis/RKMC-Build
Also install the latest firmware on your device, you can search chinagadgetreviews or freaktab forum.
I also got a RK3229 device today, HPH NTN8 RK3229 I think, so I'm still tweaking and testing it.
The IR signal and response is amazing on this device since the IR receiver is exposed from the casing, this has always been a problem on a lot of tv boxes I've tested.

Missed this post. Thanks! That's a shame, you pay a premium for a substandard offering. Such nonsense. Probably have to end up casting from my laptop. The Mi Box is priced at $69 dollars which is not bad, if you can get one from the US.

That's the build that's on there already. It recognizes it as a RC bit it's recommending that a 'stable' build be installed.
