The Droid TV thread

If you can import new 4k mi box with Android TV Os costs $99 at geek buying. Supports all official apps in hd like Netflix . 4k YouTube etc Also Kodi but you should load SPMC as the fork is run by the old official android dev for Kodi and Kodi has no Android Dev at th moment.

Probably also available at Gearbest. Sounds good, Xiaomi generally makes nice quality stuff.

Netflix HD support
Plex
YouTube HD support
Kodi

Showmax and 4K would be a plus but not essential.

Only 3 Android boxes can deliver what you are looking for (Showmax is an unknown though)

1. Nvidia Shield TV (Android TV) - starts at $199 (if you want a remote instead of just a game controller then add $49)
2. Xiaomi Mi Box US version (Android TV) - $69
3. Amazon Fire TV 4k version (Amazon customised Android) - $90 (Fire TV stick has limited connectivity - $40)

Any touch based only apps would need an air mouse. Also no other Android box delivers Netflix HD.

Roku can't deliver on your Kodi and Showmax requirements

Apple TV is too limited for my liking.

Kodi on Android you can navigate with a Bluetooth/wireless keyboard?

Yes you can. Or wireless mouse / air mouse. Not many of the cheaper units support bluetooth, but regular wireless work great

How useful/accurate are those air mouse in practise and cost?

Cheap, but crap
I've been using a R135 (Gearbest) no-name airmouse for about two months and I enjoy it. I only miss the scroll wheel I had on the wireless mouse I was previously using, but the build in keyboard makes up for it. Screenshot_2016-10-22-07-03-56.jpg

Any update on the DSTV Now app on the Nvidia shield tv?

Ok so DSTV Now is not compatible with the Shield. Not only does it not work but it doesn't show up at all in the store to download.
I had to sideload the app. SideLoad Launcher in conjunction with ES File Explorer. Didn't work. Booted me straight to the home screen.
I got quite a few other "not supported" media apps on there to work, but not that one.
So yeah, major bummer.

Totally unrelated but on the plus side, I got a bunch of emulators working on this device. Quite impressed.
Streaming games from the Geforce Now service was also flawless.

4K content from UltraFlix 4K and Netflix is cool to have, and, as expected, Kodi on here is smooth as can be.

Which version of Android does it run?

So DSTV Now doesn't work on Lollipop, Marshmallow or Android TV, only on KitKat.
Maybe everyone should start giving negative reviews on the DSTV Now app stores?

Nice. What did you pay for everything?

Just under 8k for what you saw in the pic (as well as a custom fit carry case for the system itself and protective cases for the two controllers) and shipping and customs fees.
So yeah, not exactly cheap.

Sheet, that's not a budget android media player!!
