The Droid TV thread

I should have probably asked before buying, but is Geekbuying + EMS shipping reliable enough?

Ems should be slightly faster than barebones airmail postage.

get yourself a ARAMEX GLOBAL SHIPPING account and ship it to a reliable office (i.e. Netherlands). To ship to SA is an abortion!

I have a Shield Tv and I purchased a USB DAC to pass audio to my old AVR via which has no HDMI but am unable to play any DD or DTS tracks. Any ideas?
I’m running a coaxial cable from the DAC to the receiver

Turn off pass through so the shield decodes and sends through pcm

Ok. Currently VLC.
What’s the best player for this?

Oh btw seems more hit and miss with Kodi but no luck with any other streaming app like terrarium

Not at my TV now but I use kodi, under audio settings uncheck "allow passthrough"

Can't comment on the other programs.

There's also a surround setting in the shield menu you can fiddle with.

Ok. After playing around with many settings and media players I’ve come to this conclusion.

1. MX player works best.

2. Plays digital (DD/DTS) network streams only (I have a synology diskstation)

3. Internet streams only play in stereo with the receiver upscaling to Dolby Pro logic only.

Is this the general experience with Android TV boxes.

How can one play a digital audio internet stream?
Does it work if the receiver uses HDMI?

Best and cheapest player to wacth Dstv now on?

All i want is dstv now and showmax.

Anyone that can give me advise

Have you read or searched any part of this thread? Just asking first?

My shield passes anything through from anywhere connected via HDMI, one of the primary reasons why I bought it.

That's the issue right there, you need to get an Avr that has HDMI and supports all the codecs you want to decode, problem solved.

Yeah. Have my trusty 15 year old Onkyo 5.1 amp that doesn’t seem to breakdown and not sure where to start on buying a new amp

Bought a MyGica 495x yesterday.

Mixed feedback in there.

Disable auto-update on Play store - download APK from their website. See here:
www.mygica.co.za/faq

Working fine for me. Play store version won't play video due to device not being Google certified.

Faq has Showmax APK as well.

You will need at a minimum a wireless mouse to navigate and type in on-screen keyboard. Remote works well for remote stuff, but not as a mouse/keyboard replacement.

I am satisfied with my purchase (R1099 @Game). Might be cheaper elsewhere - check around. I needed it yesterday so bought it on the spot.
