2) DA spam

This one I never got. They have to reach out somehow to the masses. Especially when trying to make a dent in the ANC. They can spam me all they want if it gets the ANC less seats in parliament.

This forum is not in anyway representative of the South Africa voting public though. I'd suspect the overwhelming number of people on here are white and middle-class. In other words, a typical DA voter. The voting results in this thread are therefore of no surprise to me.

Sure, wasn't arguing that. I was just pointing out that someone who wouldn't have voted ANC anyway and stays away from the polls will in effect strengthen the ANC.

R13 was complaining about the nanny policies, to which OrbitalDawn asked:

To which I responded. What other nanny laws? There must be a lot the way you and R13 go one, so I wanna know the complete list so I can investigate.

Right now the only two reasons I have really seen in this thread to not vote DA are:

1) Boozers cant always get their booze when they want to
2) DA spam

My vote is based on issues like health, crime, access to education, dealing with corruption, addressing inequality, etc etc. But I can see how some people can base their vote on issues like getting spam.... or wanting more booze.

I guess people for vote for different reasons.

Yep, and it's entirely their right to vote for who they want. It just seems irrational and detrimental to me. I don't understand why people don't even want to use their vote to voice their discontent with those currently in power, if not as a vote for someone you do specifically want in power.

Agreed, but I'd add that if someone has opted out and asked not to be contacted in this manner then that should be respected.

You said above that you've previously voted ANC, now the DA no longer has your support...

So you really can't find anybody worth voting for in the crapload of available options? If that really is the case then please abstain.

In the past they have had my support (different years).

Currently it is just a case of doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Madness and a circus.

I never received that message, but I expected more from the DA. The DA however did cold-dial me previously and asked me who I was going to vote for. I told them to go and get shoved even though I was planning on voting for them in that election.

The DA needs to lead by example and not resort to ANC tactics if they want to win and hold votes.

I don't think you've seen the majority demographic in this country. Trying to be "civilized" doesn't work well with the voters that want to break everything when they protest.

So if you can't beat them, join them? I'm sorry but I won't vote for a party that needs to resort to such tactics.

Yet the DA has made the progress it has lately in thanks to these tactics. When they did things your way they barely got 10%.

It's all good and well to have ideals. Ideals don't work in this country though. You need to face reality and just get things done.

Yep, and their piss-poor tactics resulted in the epic failure that was the AGANG merger. I'll be voting for somebody else this election.

<snip>Anybody who's not</snip>

So if you have to put the FF+ side by side with the DA, and evaluate them on all their points (both good and bad), average them out and then make a decision... would you really still vote FF+?

Perhaps that's just how I like to evaluate things... I know that no party will fit my criteria 100%, but instead of looking at the one or two issues I don't agree with (especially when they are petty issues), I judge the party on the bigger picture, and include a bunch of different criteria.

On another note... do you have a cellphone? Every cellular provider has over the years done exactly the same thing in terms of cold calling. Should I throw away my Cell C phone because they called me that one time to ask me if I want a cellphone contract and I didn't want them to? Should I get rid of my gym contract as well, or vow never to use products X Y and Z because someone stuffed up in their direct marketing campaign?

Grow up a little.

Correct. And that is my right.

Yup, without a doubt, and I fully support your right to vote for drinking reasons. My vote is is a little more important to me than booze :D

LOL @ you avoiding the question again. No worries :D

You guys really need to stop with this lie. They have seats in parliament so it is not wasted. A coalition of opposition parties are better then two huge parties imo.

An unheard of party gets a seat in parliament... now what? What can you do with a seat? How are you going to impact policy with 1 seat? The DA even with its numbers gets sidelined most of the time.
