Its very strange how differently people react to the messages or communications from the DA. You get a handful of people where its armageddon and their whole reason to vote DA goes out the window and then you get this:

(These were taken just from posts on my wall today)

then you get the DA that promises feedback and then dances over the topic while replying to everybody else's post ... :p

seriously, you can put COPE/ANC/EFF anywhere in place of the word DA in those messages, let's be realistic. i'm not voting for a party on how often they send SMSes out or how good their vibes at the polling station are

As I said, if you have a problem with this, you are going to have a difficult life. Its not going to stop. Polling is common practice through democracies everywhere. In America they have automated phone banks doing this.

So you are saying it's okay to cold call? Is that the official stance of the DA? I can't wait for the protection of private information act to put an end to crap like this. Just because it happens elsewhere doesn't make it okay here. I am less likely to vote for a party that phones me and asks me who I am voting for, than for a party that phones me and asks me to vote for them. I am less likely to vote for a party that cold calls me, than one that doesn't cold call me.

Polling is fine. Its normal. If you dont like it, ask them to remove you from the database. You would die in a first world country as just about every major political party would poll you. Most people dont have a problem with polling. I literally have to come to mybb to find people who complain about it. The real people I know dont seem to have issues with it as I posted earlier.

Phoning people to get out and vote and polling has been happening en masse for over 20 years here in South Africa. I was speaking to my mom about her days back in the PFP, and how she had to do the calling back then.

If you base the value of your vote on an unwanted phone call. Good luck to the political party you end up with :D

I don't, but it sometimes seems like political parties think an sms / phone call will have that effect.

A mate of mine who works with me forgot to vote yesterday. He was like, "why didnt you remind me!" (I did remind him during the day, but not after work as I went straight to the voting station to monitor voting and counting). Im going to be sure to ask them the DA to include him in their database :)

Thanks heavens not all DA people are as patronising as you. People on MyBB aren't real people....really trying to endear yourself here.

No. I know the people on my facebook. I know their real names, I know they are real people. I only know few real people here, and I certainly dont know the real names of all the sockpuppets here.

Its really sad that you looked at that sentence, and thats what you took from it :*(

Still doesn't make it right to abuse people's private information. It's a shame that you as a representative for the DA on this forum doesn't come out against it. That shows to me that the DA condones the abuse of people's private information.

I don't base my vote on this alone, but it certainly weighs in somewhere. I guess I just have a too high expectation.

Ask them to not call. Once again, polling is done the world over. Here is a wiki article for you to read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_poll

Im not a public representative. Im a person expressing my own views.

No.

Lots of people have unrealistic view of politics. If you think politics is about getting everything you want you are always going to be disappointed. Politics, specifically democracy, is about compromise.

I have asked them to, but I shouldn't have had to in the first place. They had no business cold calling me, and they infringed on my rights of privacy.

Please explain how they invaded your privacy?

They invaded my privacy by buying my cellphone number from somewhere shady and then using it to cold call me. I am listed on the do-not call databases, yet they didn't care. They also interrupted me and wasted my time.

You have proof that they bought it somewhere, specifically shady? Sounds like slander to me...
They cold called you? Ok and, how is that an invasion of privacy?
I am also on a do not call list, I suspect it gets removed randomly since when I put it back on all is quiet for a few weeks.
They wasted your time? How is that an invasion of privacy? People stuck in traffic are having hectic invasions of privacy every day!

Not going to argue this with you. I did not ask them to call me, I did not give them my number. I am on the do not call list. There is no non-shady way for them to get my number. They had no right to call me. They have no right to have my cellphone number. They have no right to have any information on me.

That "Other" option is really worrying.

I guess all the lazy non voters or idiotic ballot spoilers are in that box.
