Then you're an idiot.

Or just move to Perth like the rest of them.

Not going to argue this with you. I did not ask them to call me, I did not give them my number. I am on the do not call list. There is no non-shady way for them to get my number. They had no right to call me. They have no right to have my cellphone number. They have no right to have any information on me.

Because you'll lose, clearly :D
Like I said, a lot of people are on the do not call list, and yet hey presto, they get called. You can not just assume those people got your number in dodgy ways, you have no proof. Slander is just as illegal as an invasion of privacy. Heck, the opt out database isn't even intended for this afaik (unless you want to claim the DA was try to sell you something, ie direct marketing). In fact, the DA is not on the member list of the DMA (I do not think any party is), so you have no right to expect them to follow the opt out database.

Shame, your entire argument just got blown totally out of the water

On the upside, we counted many votes last night and at the particular voting station I was at.. there was not one single spoilt vote. I was very proud of the people in that ward.

Basically if someone calls me who I don't want to hear from, it's an invasion of privacy.

The answer to this is simple: Don't vote for them then.

If a company irritates you, don't give them your business. If a party like the DA have become arrogant enough to feel they're entitled to asking you private questions like which party you're voting for (yes, DA supporters, this is actually a private matter), then don't give them your vote. The DA's spam campaign (we've had complaints about SMSes, emails, and calls on this forum) is supported by the DA club on MyBB simply because, "it's not the ANC" and "oh my god get over it do you like want to see the country burn".

I can't believe that a mere phone call inconvenience is enough to let people make everything go to hell just to prove a point.

Really, it's such a small thing in the bigger picture...just accept it and move along.

That's like saying you support Hitler because the jews sent you a letter.

That's good to hear.

Sadly though you can't know how many people didn't vote at all.

1.) [-]* "you're an idiot."[/-] Idiocy is subjective. Edit: Saw your edit :)

2.) I never do, although whether I vote, my gender, race, beliefs, education, criminal record or which Rugby team i support should have very little bearing on my actual arguments. You cannot dismiss a fact/argument/complaint based on who i am but only on the merits of the argument. Telling me I have no voice if i do not vote when me not voting or spoiling my vote is MY voice and MY freedom to do so.

3.) I am not interested in moving to Perth, likewise I am not interested in participating a paper scribbling match with a bunch of monkeys that think numbers solve problems

You haven't provided any. Other than petty whining about phone calls and SMSs. If they ask you who you're gonna vote for, tell them to fsck off. I deleted the SMS I got from them, just like I deleted the one I got from the ANC and the Gauteng government.

And the false equivalence is the issue. The ANC loot the country's coffers like crazy, fsck up the education system, fsck up the health system etc. but an unwanted SMS puts the DA in the same league. Oh noez!

Look at their actual performance in government. They are simply performing better than the ANC. Along with that the ANC has shown decisively (in my view) that they don't deserve to be in government. Therefore I'm also voting to get them out. Abstaining is in effect tacit approval of what they're doing, because you're not actively using your 'voice' to oppose what they're doing.

You're never going to get a party that you agree with 100%, or who will never put a foot wrong. Deal with it, and deal with the reality that we have, and see where we can help it to improve.. Don't throw your toys out of the cot and refuse to play like an upset child.

1) Yeah bit too quick for you there. :)

2) A voice is only a voice if it can be heard.

Not voting or spoiling your ballot is as good as being mute.

3) Yeah neither am I. I'm under no illusion it will magically solve all the problems of the world...but it will certainly be a step in the right direction.

You know I actually don't even mind if he votes for the ANC.

Rather that, than not voting at all.

I mean looking at the poll there's no particular party that infuriates me nearly as much as the "Other" one.

We welcome measures which will cut these exorbitant costs, by bringing members of the executive into line with ordinary MPs. But we categorically do not support increasing benefits to retired MPs. Indeed, it is our view that Parliament should be looking to find ways to cut these post-retirement benefits further.

I want to know if any DA retired politician is taking flights at my expense.

where have i argued at all about SMSes or phone calls? i've never received a phone call in my life from ANY party? i haven't even bitched about the alcohol limitations because it's storm in a tea cup.

this is my point, it's like whenever politics is raised everyone becomes rabid witch-hunters and finger-pointers. the only thing i have complained about is Ghoti's attitude on the forum and everyone's irrational conclusions they come to, such as i am not voting, therefore i'm supposed to shut up.

your argument is also flawed - i am not going to find a partner i agree with 100%, true. so i can choose between the whiney psychobitch or the cheating overweight thief? and i don't get to choose which one i want, i have 9 other people who are going to choose one for me anyway based on majority vote?

abstaining is removing myself from the system. i'm not voting for the ANC, or anyone else. i never agreed to the rules, i don't believe in the process, i manage myself quite fine. if i want to change the country, i engage people in daily life and try to improve their life, not whine on a forum and blackmail people into not speaking again

While in my opinion I dont think this helps the country as a whole, why cant people realise that this is your right living in our democracy?

And the only thing that calling you an idiot will achieve is probably an entrenchment of your views.
