DA win my vote my default being the second biggest party. Don't think much of their socialist "nanny state" policies though.

Same question as to R13... Which policies specifically?

The Da is trying to emulate the Anc with being the party who promises you the most free crap. They want a big bloated government who promise to be all things to all people. They want to regulate and control your lives in every aspect with their version of what's good for you. If I wanted that crap I'd move to Australia.

I want a small government that provides only the basic services like policing and transport infrastructure. I want most things deregulated and privatised. The Da won't be a step in this direction. You know what I changed my mind. I'm not voting for anyone.

A little extreme viewpoint there.

Their consideration of an even bigger social welfare system (B.I.G for everyone) than the openly socialist ANC is surely socialist?

Your police, education system, public health systems, etc are all already socialist.

So are you saying you dont want the DA to put more money and expand the police, education, health system, roads and fire stations? Is that your argument? Or can you be more specific than, "The [-]Obama[/-] DA are socialist". Perhaps you can point to an exact policy that goes beyond your levels of "socialist" toleration.

Ghoti, I seriously recommend you read the "Road to Serfdom" if you want to educate yourself about how economic and political freedom are intertwined. Take it or leave it ;).

I highly recommend that you read, "Economics for South African students" (its a 101 university student economics book). I think once you have a basic fundamental understanding of economics, you will be better equipped to debate the topic. Take it or leave it ;) Nothing I say or recommend economically is not in that basic text book. Im not exactly taking extreme stances on anything here. Im taking the academic, empirical, moderate approach.

If you really want, you can PM me your address and I will snail mail you a copy of that economics text book. (This is a serious offer. If you really wanna know the basics of economics, I will happily email you this text book).

I do not see the point of spoiling your ballot.

Why stand in a queue to be a troll?

I see the Dagga Party failed to pay their deposit on time, guess I'll have to go DA now :p

Not voting...since voting is a right not a duty, I decided to waive my right to vote this time. I really don't know enough about the opposition to cast an intelligent vote (I have always voted for the ANC before). This time I will let my more informed neighbours make the decision on my behalf.

Dont you think it is part of your civic responsibility to learn about the opposition? In the past I voted ID, UDM, COPE, etc, but they all ended up as wasted votes. So this election cycle I have spent a lot of time learning about the best opposition to support so I dont waste my vote again.

Democracy is a privilege, you dont use it, you can lose it.

You should go through the videos on the DA youtube channel, they have some informative vids.

Liquor law would be one. And don't tell me it's been changed as on the ground it has not, for whatever reason - red tape my guess.

lol.

So can't think of anything substantial?

Like which policies...? Show me actual policies, not vague ideological accusations.

Yeah, that'll show 'em!

Their consideration of an even bigger social welfare system (B.I.G for everyone) than the openly socialist ANC is surely socialist?

Same question as to midnight, can you show me this policy, please? I know they've suggested ideas about grants linked to accomplishment, so finishing school is incentivised, for example.

And I don't care if it's socialist or not. I'd prefer it to be a little less, but that's not going to happen any time soon. Any party that wants to make inroads in South Africa will have to be significantly socialist-minded.
