Plan was not to leave so nowhere really [kid only finishes school end of this year]. Just thought that it was nice of my country to tell me that my dual citizenship was declined and I thus had to pick one or the other so have decided to let my SA one go. Still have permanent residency here so do not have to pack up and go quite just yet.

If I do have to go then a couple of choices. Have permanent residency in Honk Kong, Singapore, Mauritius and now in the Caribbean. New citizenship allows for visa free travel and stays in almost all counties [incl. all of Europe] so doubt whether I will settle in a single place.

Hmm. Have you already acquired your new citizenship? Because if you haven't you can apply to retain both. Only if you've already voluntarily acquired another country's citizenship will you automatically lose your SA one.

Perhaps the ANC "The Power" will go ahead without amending the Constitution, we all know every case with Zuma is pro-longed. Besides this I am very sure that he will get to keep all his "personal" belongings paid by the Treasury. A question that I do have, how long until the two Zulu kings clash?

The monarchies in SA are political pawns and stooges. They don't really do much.

I really doubt he wants to.
The changing the Constitution is a fun little monster used by both the ANC and DA to rile up supporters. If they wanted it changed, it would have been changed by now

He's said explicitly he wants to. And they have changed it, 17 times already.

And he's done everything he possibly can to avoid standing in a court room. I don't think it's that far fetched to think he'll want to continue down that route.

I was not aware that you lose your citizenship in SA should you acquire citizenship in another country?

Yep. Voluntary acquisition of another country's citizenship after age 18 causes you to lose your SA citizenship, unless you've specifically applied to keep it before acquiring the other one.

If you want to formally obtain the citizenship of another country while retaining your South African citizenship, you can apply for retention of your South African citizenship.

Please note: the application must be made and approved before acquisition of the other citizenship, or you will lose your SA citzenship automatically on the date that you have acquired the foreign citizenship.

If you've automatically lost your SA citizenship it's actually really easy to get it back if you actually live in SA.

Wow. Is it possible that the thieves get their 66.66..%?

I'll be bitterly disappointed if they go past 65% and the DA tumbles below 19%.

Already obtained and did apply before hand. Was told that I could only keep both if the other came about through other means i.e. parents etc.. but because I applied for it it meant that I could not keep both as I essentially renounced my SA one by applying for the other.

If you lose your SA one you get permanent residence here. In short it means that you can still stay here, you can still work here, you can still own and buy property here. You can however no longer own a firearm [which I do not have] and you can no longer vote [as if my voted counted anything]. So essentially the same as before thus my reason for deciding to drop the SA one in favour of the other.

They always say that before an election. There is nothing new. If they wanted to change it, they could have done so anytime in the last year

Interesting, guess I'll be losing mine as well in about 2.5 years.

Sounds like a BS reason to me for not letting you have dual citizenship. But fair enough, your reasoning makes sense.

Not really. They would have needed help from an opposition party, and that's not a foregone conclusion.

Uh, they have very friendly small parties in Parliament. All they needed was one vote, which AZAPO or similar would have happily provided

Maybe, maybe not.

Anyway, they've never been under as much pressure to implement more radical policies. They're hamstrung by the constitution in some ways, as per their own admission and stated goal.

Their policies are very similar to the DA's (The differences are mostly in the detail). NUMSA and co on the other hand, have a very different view. But they have now been brought to heel

My biggest concern with the ANC/EFF is taking land ownership without compensation at market related pricing, also setting rules and regulation on how individuals can run their own (or stake in) business.
