Voting for the ANC doesn't mean 'uneducated': iLIVE

The notion that your ANC vote is a result of "brainwashing", "stupidity", "irrationality" and "emotion".

Allow me to tell you everything that's wrong with this view.

First, it is a very pretentious tendency when you feel like you have the authority to decide what constitutes being "educated".

Note: Having a degree does not make you educated.

Second, there's an inherent racism which assumes that the black constituency who votes ANC is doing so because they don't know better. Making that assumption undermines the rationale of black voters.

Someone once said to me: "Blacks vote ANC because they're emotional, not educated."

By making statements like those, you make the inference that black people aren't capable of reasoning and rational thinking.

The next problem is that you don't have an argument for members of the "educated" elite who vote ANC. Why do they do it? If we use society's standard to measure education, then people like me are well-educated.

I voted for the ANC yesterday.

Now what?

You don't need a degree to make a decision on who should govern your country.

And, just because you don't like the ANC, doesn't mean that those who do are less rational than you.

People vote ANC because, behind the scandal and media bias, they are the party that works to advance the struggle of the poor.

Admit it or not, but life is better because of the ANC. Whilst there are many, many problems, that remains the bottom line.

Working from the view that people who don't vote for opposition parties are stupid puts you in an arrogant position. You do not get to speak for the thought processes of those who voted differently to you.

The beauty of politics is that it is experienced differently by different people. Your privileged perception of the world is not the lived reality of millions of people in this country.

Our understanding of race, gender, class and economics vary because our realities vary. That people are unable to acknowledge and learn that is astonishing.

The very mentality that people who don't vote for parties like the DA are stupid is testament to the kind of mentality shared by many of their supporters.

It is this mentality that shapes the reality that the DA will never lead our country.

As we move forward to a decisive, sober, rational victory. Thank you ANC.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, let me assume that her vote is part of the 10% that voted for the ANC, the other 90% of the vote unfortunately is based on lies, corruption and underhanded tactics that she will never understand.

if over 50k of ANC voters accidentally voted for the AIC it shows exactly what level of people vote for the ANC :P

I wouldn't say the e-tolls didn't affect Gauteng. The ANC lost about 12% to the DA in Gauteng alone. It's probably the hottest contested province in the country now.
I think ex-ANC is more likely to go EFF than DA (just like most EFF leaders are former ANC). So I think it's the EFF that took the ANC's 12% not the DA.

I reckon one reason so many people here in the EC voted ANC is because them, their aunties, uncles, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grannys, grandpas are hired by the ANC and have a direct interest in seeing the ANC re-elected (to keep their jobs). Don't understimate the ANC's shrewd planning in having a massive public service albeit inefficient.
Absolutely! The ANC is the be-all end-all in rural provinces! Virtually all government employees in those areas also wear ANC hats, and being rural the government is almost the only economic benefactor. You oppose the ANC you find yourselft out in the cold economically and socially. That's why we see the ANC always getting 70%+ in such areas. What I have loved is the erosion of ANC support in urban areas where the population is better informed (e.g. City of Johanesburg and Tshwane). This needs to be consolidated in the 2016 local elections! Let the ANC be left with the ignorant rural provinces while opposition/coalitions control the powerful economic hubs!

The army has been deployed to quell unrest in Alex
The army and public order police were deployed in Alexandra last night as fear mounted that residents were planning additional protests.

Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane said the army had been called in.

“The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Joel Mothiba, has informed me that people in Alexandra have been attacking buildings and assaulting others… the army is moving in as we speak,” Mokonyane said on the sidelines of the Independent Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) results centre.

Deputy minister in the presidency Obed Bapela, who with ANC legal head Andries Nel arrived in the township with other high-ranking officials last night, said the group were embarking on a walkabout near the Madala hostel to assess the volatile situation.

“The police here are not trained to control this crowd. If something should happen they will not be able to handle the situation,” said Bapela.

The move was in response to earlier clashes between residents and police near the Pan African Shopping Mall, where several people were injured after police apparently used live ammunition.

The chaos in Alexandra township began when the councillor of Ward 75, Chris Mabunda, was seen holding ballot boxes in the township.

“Rumours started when I was seen holding a ballot box with police and IEC officials present. They had concluded that I had counted the papers.

The ballot box contained votes for the IFP, DA, NFP and EFF.

Bapela, meanwhile, said the incident went out of control and that police had no choice but to act swiftly.

By late last night, the situation had not yet been contained. It was thought that residents were mobilising for continuous protests throughout the night.

The township was on a knife-edge as police and protesters continued to clash.

Tyres were burnt and stones thrown at police at the corner of sixth Avenue and Alfred Nzo Street. This is near the Madala hostel and Nobuhle – an IFP stronghold.

Anxious residents and children stood on the sidelines, unable to get to their homes. A huge contingent of armed police and JMPD officers stood armed with rubber bullets and stun grenades ready to quell the situation while a helicopter hovered above.

Gauteng MPL and resident Sizakele Malobane said a group of people had gone to the Alex Magistrates Court in support of those who had been arrested after they allegedly burnt tyres and clashed with the police near Second Avenue.

On Thursday, trouble in the township began when ANC and IEC officials were held hostage after being accused of tampering with ballot papers. Allegations of vote-rigging surfaced after EFF members claimed they saw ballot papers being transported in an ANC vehicle.

It was also understood that IFP members were disgruntled after their party lost all the wards to the ANC.

Provincial police spokesman Neville Malila said the protesters thought the group of 32 people who had been arrested would appear in court. But they did not. They wanted them to be released.

Sounds like massive vote fraud was done, why are there so many protests immediately following the elections, yet the ANC won all those areas with ease?

Yes we are aware of the rigging. Its called intimidation. Your life or vote anc. Nothing new and that is what the da has to look into if they want the vote

Malema has just promised the ANC assistance if they require a two-thirds majority to change the constitution.

You know how I know this is a thing in your imagination ? I live in the real world.

You seem to be on a trend of not comprehending or remembering stuff clearly. It was a minister only a few weeks ago that threaded some people that if they don't vote for the ANC they should not get grants. So do you really think its far fetched these people did not go into the town ships and say this face to face. :D Whatever you say.

Go read the statement I was responding too.
