you guys who DJ, what gear do you use? Ive got quite a klunky old set up. I use a PC with 2 sound-cards (onboard for headphone monitoring and soundblaster as main out) and a very old version (legit bought) of NI Traktor which is cool and fun along with a box I collected from cash converters, a Roland ef-303 which is good for beat matched effects and only cost me R300.
Want to move to laptop tho but need to save up a bit.

I'm in need of some more recommendations. Jazzy, Trip hoppy, Down Tempoey, IDMey etc. ;)

Really enjoying Burial, The Flying Lotus and Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Emsemble!

glad you liked kilimanjaro darkjazz ensemble, burial, and flying lotus. have you checked out everything by boards of canada? try clark's body riddle - not that jazzy, but definately IDM-ish.
i got a mix here somewhere of aphex twin's drukQs LP. i think its by thinktoy and approx 40-45 min long. soulseek/whatever it. it is quite good if thats your cup of tea. personally still trying to get my head around autechre's quaristice. currently downloading thom yorke's eraser mixes from bleep.com

Ah yes thanks for your recommendations!

I have all the BoC stuff I think. Should listen to it again, haven't in a while.

Is this the Clark's Body Riddle you speak of? That track isn't too bad, some Wisp sounds in there. Not entirely what I'm looking for though.

Definitely feeling for some Jazzy stuff at the moment :D

Have you managed to check out any Cinematic Orchestra, Skalpel, Jaga Jazzist, Funki Porcini and/or Xploding Plastix?

yup. thats ted.

unfortunately had not gone through them artistes yet. (still high on my to do list) got a whole proverbial stack of new music that i'm still going through atm, and i've been in a somewhat stormy violent mood the past few weeks (listening to some nin remixes in the car).:p
that and the 384k line is bloody slow.
would you recommend a creative means to acquiring the said music, or is there a site somewhere with some samples? (runs off to amazon to go check for samples FWIW) :D

dont like the singing so much on ma fleur. but skalpel! ive been living under a rock. this is good! getting break out on bleep now.

Yeah, that album isn't great. Motion, Remixes 1998-2000, Every Day and Man with a Movie Camera are much better :)

@postman. Not sure, I listen to them all on occasions and am never sure which one Im listening to as I do a random click thing. They are all about 2 hrs long. Ill upload a few to a uunet/verizon folder :) when I get a chance. You almost dont notice the bit rate after a while. If theres a track in the mix you can mail her and shes very friendly and approachable and will let you know. I think she a long time IDM mailing list contributor too.

i REAAAALLY like skalpel. buying everything on bleep. 1958, konfusion, break out and skalpel. i'll check discogs if theres more to look for. thank you very much for the kick in this direction.

EDIT: ag nee man! jaga jazzist is also flipping excellent. too much music. need more ears. funny they're mostly on ninja tune. always like that recordlabel due to amon tobin.
