What a lot of people dont' seem to get is that the F-35 is very much more - and more complex - than "traditional" 4-5G aircraft. It's a
whole system that goes well beyond the airframe and onboard weaponry in the way fighters have traditionally been conceived and missioned. It's designed to also deal with very different threats to the ones we've historically seen, including high-performance combat UAVs expected to emerge in the 20s, which is why its highly-integrated theatre-wide systems are so critical - and so hard to do.
